Introduction: Sypranic 8 Round Revolver + Modern

About: My life is 3 things Engineering,Music, and Movies Life would bore me otherwise I want to do more Fun things yet i cant because Evil teachers who give HW Like my poem? sadly its all true --- ------------- …

This was the first true 8 round Knex revolver, and the one that started the whole "Taped cylinder" concept. It was my personal Knex sidearm. In it's day, it was significantly smaller then magazine based Knex Guns, until ones with the magazine in the grip were designed.

Notes:
I am updating this instructable a bit today 5/22/17. (A little more then 9 years after I originally posted the thing.)
I'm doing this to fix spelling and grammar mistakes that I made when I was still a kid. Surprisingly I still have the original taped cylinder. I found it while cleaning and realized just how old it is.
It certainly came from a different era of my life.

The Sypranic 8 round Revolver v2 has been published, and can be found here.
*The upgrade is mainly a functional true trigger.

This model of the S8rR was meant to be more like a concept gun for the taped cylinder, and built to be as simple as possible, while still looking like classic revolvers like the Colt Single Action Army Revolver, and the Colt Python.
As such it lacks any sort of auto-revolve, or a regular trigger system.
The lack of a trigger was because I thought it be too easy to shoot while the cylinder was not properly aligned causing a misfire, and possibly damage to your gun.

So what are the Pros and Cons to this Knex gun?
Pros:

  • Fairly small
  • Fairly easy to build
  • Doesn't use a lot of parts
  • It shouldn't be able to jam*

Cons:

  • It can have issues with cylinder rotation if proper precautions are not taken.
  • Uses the unusual "Chamber Trigger"
  • Requires 2 hands to fire due to it's trigger mechanism.

Step 1: The Taped Cylinder

The part that made this thing unique!

Parts required:

  • 36 Silver spacers. - Blue spacers are not recommended.
  • Duct Tape.
  • Scissors.
  • 1 White Rod - temporary.
  • 8 Blue Rods - temporary.
  • 1 Snowflake Connector - temporary.

A User named Neo1 suggested using BIC pens, I'm not fully sure how well that works, but you are welcome to try!

Picture 1) Start by stacking 4 silver spacers on a white rod.
Picture 2) Wrap the stack with duct tape

The cylinder will require 36 silver spacers

*WARRNING!* this will use alot of silver spacers!

Pic 1) gather 8 white rods and 36 silver spacers.**Note** (TY Neo!) you can use Pen bodys! (just find a pen that fits a knex rod in it, take out the point and pen in tube) then pile 4 spacers on one white rod. - I would not suggest using blue spacers due to they can easily get out of place, and cause more friction
SUGGESTION - try to gather the spacers before hand. and check for friction, if a rod does not slide easily through then you should not use that spacer for the chambers, (maybe the middle cause it does not matter for nothing needs to slide in and out, for its just for spining).

Pic 2) get some duct tape and rap around one or twice the ammo cartridge **do not! tape the edges down!! **PEN USERS!** dont tape the silver conectors but skip to Pic 6!

Pic 3) it should look like this! (if does yay!)

Pic 4) "trim" the sides so that they are equal to the end of the silver spacers (little photographers note the I am holding the camera and the tube in picture not anything else)

Pic 5) this is how it should about look like when done from trimming

Pic 6) build a snowflake with blues side connected and slide the cartridge into there, follow the previous steps and make 8 more and put all on there except for the last one. ***PEN USERS*** use the 4 silver spacers as a mesuring tool and mark with a sharpy to how high the spacers are, then cut them there! it will show on pic 10!

Pic 7) will look like this, now tape all around it once or twice and trim it. ***pen users*** must take out the silver spacers before this step!

Pic 8) the 9th one will become the center (mine is a little sloppy) but wrap it around with duct tape till it gets big and snugly fits in the middle of the wheel, then trim it.

Pic 9) it is finished! (mine again is very sloppy but then this is doing from rushing) use it on the snowflake with the blue rods and insert one piece in middle to see for a perfect fit)

Pic 10) ***PEN USERS ONLY***
cut where you put the line with the sharpy!

Step 2: Barrel and Peices

your now done with the cylinder (thats the hardest part trust me)
now to make a gun to fit with it!

pic 1) you can choose you size barrel, from yellow, red, or grey. just take away some grey connectors for it to be red, and yellow take everything away except the red connector with the 2 green connectors

Pic 2) my personal favorite handle that I have been using for about 4/5 months now. next pic will show you the side

pic 3) as I said before this is a side view

pic 5)fake trigger, you do not need to use the silver spacer! I just use for it it comfortable for me.

pic 6) this is the main body of the gun.

pic 7) do this to both sides, it may cause a little friction when revolving but it will stop alot of jams.

Step 3: Put It All Together - for Modern Skip This and Go to Step 5

time to put all the pieces together and make the revolver!

Pic 1) the fake trigger and the main body.

PC 2)handle and the body+trigger

pic 3) the cylinder and the barrel (note a rod should be easy to push through and go through the barrel

Pic 4) slide the red connector and cylinder down a little bit and connect it with the body.

Pic 5) add one red connector right before the cylinder, and a grey connector after the snowflake

pic 6) add this to make it stronger then add the fireing pin

Step 4: Lock and Load Baby!

loading the gun is easy, pull the pin back until it is half way between the grey and red connectors and make the pin stuck by making it push upwards the do the picture instructions.

pic 1) in between the red connector and snowflake insert a white rod (you can load from the other side as well)

pic 2) pull the pin back if you have not already and turn the cylinder until it is a little more then halfway to the next bullet.

and you are ready to fire my friend, turn the cylinder all the way and it will fire.

well thats it, this was brought to you by; Sypran, 2 hours of work to desine and get a frame, 3 bottles of rootbeer, your Internet provider, and last but certainly the best Eric for making this fantastic website!

good bye and happy shooting!

Step 5: Modern Revolver Parts

Pic 1 - barrel. nothing realy hard here

Pic 2 - Back sights - SPRING AND SPACERS ARE NOT NEEDED!

Pic 3 - minor changes to the normal revolvers

Pic 4 - Again the Handel if you did not see it

Step 6: Modern Time to Finish

ehh you can read the notes its easy

once your done go to step 4 to learn how to load
