How to transform a boring old t-shirt into something that could make you the star of the party: turn it upside down & create some fancy pockets.

Step 1: Things you will need

Picture of Things you will need

1. Any old t-shirt, large enough to fit you. It is preferable to use a t-shirt that doesn't have big prints or things written on it, as you will turn it upside down.

2. Scissors

3. A sewing machine (or sew it by hand)

4. Safety pins

5. Elastic (about 1,5m)

Step 2: The lower part

Picture of The lower part

Measure the circumference of your chest.

Cut a piece of elastic that matches your measurements.

Turn the shirt inside out and cut a small opening on the bottom hem.

Use a safety pin to attach one end of the elastic and insert the pin through the small opening. Pass the safety pin (and the elastic) inside the hem until you reach the other end.

Attach the two ends of the elastic by sewing them.

Turn the shirt right side out. Now it should look like the picture.

Step 3: The upper part

We'll now look at the upper part of the shirt.

Use some pins to hold the fabric still.

Cut all excess fabric so in the end you'll have a straight line at the top. Make sure you cut any visible part of the collar.

Use some pins to attach the sleeves at the front of the t-shirt in this particular position (arms crossed). You will sew them on the shirt later.

Use the sewing machine to make a hem where you cut the excess fabric.

Should I use my normal t-shirt size, or would anyone recommend moving up one size?

"a piece of elastic that matches your measurements." would be about one inch less then your original measurement, to keep it snug. If you want it tighter, adjust as needed. Also, (this is a no brainer, but I am saying it anyways) a good way to see the length of the elastic is to hold it up around yourself where it will be then put a mark there. But leave extra just in case!!! Hope this helps!

isavendetta, it looks like you added straps, or maybe those are from a bra underneath? Can you elaborate?
oh! actually them are from the bra underneath :P i love to wear it like that because it makes the effect that the straps are from the t-shirt-dress : D even that i think it could be possible to put that kind of bra straps on the dress (yeah some kind of crazy idea but it could work) if you take two little straps of fabric and sew them by hand to the dress (not with the sewing machine because you should sew ones as the ones that bra's have XD) it could work if you want it with them but actually i think it is better for you to look for the strap effect that i made :)

Wonderful idea. Another "add to" suggestion could be instead of running elastic through the bottom seam of the t-shirt you could run a matching ribbon or cord and use that as a drawstring. That way when you wear the shirt you could tie that up around your neck to help hold the shirt up. Just figure I would throw that in. Thanks for sharing. I will have to make one of these very very soon.

Nicely done. Looks well done. What a cool mod on a common piece of clothing.
I'm not usually a fan of this kind of top but this actually looks pretty good, by the way coming from a dude, commenting on clothes, be impressed my girl-friends and whatnot never ever hear me comment on clothing but this actually appeals to me, partly because it means I wouldn't have to hold a phone or something all night and mainly because it does look good.
Girl-friends?!!?
Read the comment below, not girlfriends but meh, it's complicated, I eh, some day you'll understand...

By the way it's not anything that unchristianly so as not to worry you, just not all that right
OK, I never ment it as non-Christian(but it would, it probely would be against just about every religion). i just ment it as normaly people only have one girl-friend, as you wouldn't marry 2 girls, you wouldn't date 2 girls (at the same time)
what's normal? there are plenty of people who have multiple, honest, ethical relationships. many people would date or marry more than one person at a time. see www.polyamory.org if you want to broaden your awareness.
I understand that there are people who have intimate relationships with two or more people, but that doesn't mean I have to accept it or see it as OK. I see Marriage and all things related to marriage(such as dating) to be something for strictly a man and a woman to partake in. You may take that how you wish, but that is my view on the subject.

As you asked "what's normal?", You're right normality is not a defined set of rules as to what is normal and what isn't, but that also means I can define it as what I see is normal, as you can define it as what you see as normal.
I was just saying unchristianly rather than naughty, it's just a case of very few actual relationships mean you end up with alot of friends that are girls and well, I dunno I meant more like, eh, trying not to be over-personal here...
ok, i think i get it.
Not quite in keeping with your morals maybe but I'm not a cheater if that's what you thought at first, considering how much I hate them that would be pretty hypocritical...
yea, i thought you were a cheater at first.
If I was i'd headbutt me...
lol.
If you guys are going to discuss his love-life could you do it by private message instead of on the Instructable, please?
lol. well, were done talking anyway.
Unless you wanna see me headbutt me...
Kind of, really complicated by the fact that there's almost always been something with them but yes female friends is a good term, sometimes you people make me feel really thick, am I that slow?
Im pretty sure he doesn't mean at once more like he has had more than one in his life.
Well more a combination of ex's and the fact that i have had very few relationships and a lot of friends which make up the get dragged shopping quotient, I do realsie that hyponating wasn't my best lazy typing option ever but I have about a thousand or so friends I see on a regular basis, the majority or which are girls so...
Do you mean "female friends"?
I have a boyfriend as well as a lot of 'male friends' and that's what I call them...
Eh close enough, my social life is more complicated than finding things on my desk... Not as complicated as the reason for the things I find in my pockets...
