Introduction: TEMPERA PAINT

About: I am an artist living and teaching ART in NYC for over 30 years, and I am a CZT, Certified Zentangle Teacher. I love to explore all sorts of art making both in my teaching and in my own work...check out my sit…

Using Tempera Paint and drawing supplies I create artwork that I refer to as Hidden Images.

Step 1: The Steps Are Easy

Begin by folding a sheet of paper in half. I used 9"X12" arches paper. Open the paper and lay it flat.

Drip several smallish drops of tempera down the fold of the paper and re-fold. Use maybe 3 or 4 colors, too many colors tend to get muddy.

Re-fold the paper and gently press the paint out towards the edges of the page.

Unfold again and let the paint dry.

Step 2: Finding Your Images

Look into the mixed paint and try to detect an image that you can enhance.

I use an assortment of drawing and mark making tools for example, colored pencils, markers, watercolors, and/or cray-pas.

This is a wonderful project that I enjoy with my students it is appropriate for all ages.
