Picture of TF2 Heavy Weapons Guy Costume
complete gun.jpg
What self respecting nerd wouldn't want to be a character out of Team Fortress 2 for Halloween? There are plenty of options, but given my physique (or lack thereof) I decided I'd try my hand at the Heavy.

The costume itself is fairly straight forward, but to be convincing it requires two things that aren't likely to be ready at hand: a mini-gun and a bandoleer of extremely large bullets. A simple google search will turn up plenty of other people's attempts at the same thing, but they all seem to lack something... craftsmanship!

Seeing that I decided, as any good instructables junkie would, to make the best effort possible and document the process for anyone else who wanted to do the same.

All together the costume will probably cost about $75, assuming you have all the tools but none of the parts, and take about 20-25 hours to assemble. Time consuming, sure, but totally worth it.

The first step, before even looking for materials, was to spend an hour or so looking at all the best source images I could find and sketching out my design. Even if you plan to follow my design to the letter I'd recommend doing something similar, I find it helps immensely to have a really good mental picture of the problem at hand before starting.

Your costume is flawless, except that you don't have a sandvich (bet you are TIRED of hearing that).
So here's another idea: replicate the new eatable-The Dalokah's Bar-by buying a hershey's bar. Simpler, more effective, and moar delicious. :3

Paciface is credit to instructables! (by the way, where is your Sandvich?)

Where did you get that sweater? It looks awesome!

You sir, are a hero.
Pwnlock, not to criticize, LOL, but he mentions in his narrative that he knew there should be six barrels, but the limit of the part only allowed five. :)

Not to criticize, but there are 6 rods in the barrel. Not 5.
oooooh they gonna have to glue you back together, in hell!

actually its "WHO TOUCHED MY NATASHCA!?!?!?!?!?!"
WRONG!!!! it goes "WHO TOUCHED MY GUN?!?!?!?!"
your all wrong its omg who touched sasha , WHO TOUCHED MY GUN!?!
it actually is sasha, listen to the meet the heavy thing, he says sasha
Oh yeah, the video I was watching said in the 'lyrics' in the description that he said Natashca. I prefer Natashca.
You forgot the sandwich, the most important part of the heavy.
Love the Gatling gun! I would combine 2 of those with a version of the Powerloader costume and make the Wolverine from Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun!

I don't think the heavy wears birkenstocks and baggy jeans. You my friend should move out of your parents basement and get a life. I like the minigun though, if only it shot real bullets

it cost 400,000 dollars to build this coustume... in twelve seconds

hay, I did a very similar thing which cost me about 20 bucks and took only 2 hours to make. it was probably cos my minigun was made of cardboard. whats with the hat? it sort of spoils the costume
The hat is a Russian Ushanka, and it is in the game.
oh yeah soz, I just unlocked it... dont play heavy v. much, I prefer spys, scouts, and snipers.
Ammo barrel? It's called a drum magazine. Other than that exelent prop. Have to remember to construct one for LARP use

Ammo barrel? It's a propane tank...
finfan7 rgchuck5 years ago
It's a ammo container like those on 'tommy guns.'
pacifcace (author)  rgchuck5 years ago
Why would it be a propane tank? The thing attached to the pyro's flamethrower is obviously a propane tank and that makes sense, but since this has a chute on it that spits spent cartridges and is attached to a giant gun instead of a flamethrower it would make sense that it's where the ammo is held, don't you think?
stevie15 years ago
now all it needs is a paintball gun hidden in the ammo barrel, with the barrel of the paintball gun in the top barrel of the "fake" gun. like a paintball gatling gun!!
pacifcace (author)  stevie15 years ago
The only problem with that is that in most places a paintball gun is considered a firearm and carrying something like this with a hidden firearm inside could, conceivably, get you into trouble.

Personally I'd rather not get shot over my Halloween costume.
