Introduction: THE JEEP CAVE FLOOR

I wanted to do something a little special for my new shop. I went with a painted floor.

Step 1: My Shop

My Shop is 24x24 and it took three gallons of white and one gallon of black (mixed) of garage floor paint to get it covered.

Step 2: What You Need.

1. Paint

2. Paint tape (two plus rolls)

3. Pans, rollers and foam brushes

4. 12" 5 gallon bucket

5. Exacto knife

6. Tape measure

7. AutoCAD LT (free trail available)

8. 2x4

9. Framing square

Step 3: You Need an Idea

Step 4: I Took a Logo Off Line and Measured It Out in Autocad. I Scaled the Head Lights to 12".

Step 5: Laying Out the Negative Stencil

After a couple of coats of white and a few days to dry, I masked off the stencil.

Lay out about ten strips over 12' long.

Center the bucket and trace with a pencil.

Take a 2x4 and set your angle and mark the top edge of the slots and headlights.

Using the framing square mark off your slots.

Tape off the slots.

Keep and eye on your tape diameter, the roll can be use to mark the radius on the slots.(mine was about 4")

Step 6: Cut All the Edges and Remove Tape

The paint tape pulled up some of the new floor. it will either be covered by black or have to be touched up.

I also added a 24" border around the edge of the shop.

Step 7: It's Hard to See, But I Did the Paint Splat Freehand With a Pencil

Step 8: First Coat of Black

I had to freehand paint this part it was too difficult to try and tape.

After you get your first coat on, you can apply the second coat about 30 minutes later.

Step 9: After the Second Coat, It Darkens It Up a Lot.

I painted the border while letting the first coat set.

Step 10: Peel Out the Painters Tape.

Be careful of the edges not tearing the black paint. I had to touch up a lot of the white where the tape peeled it up. I needed to etch my floor better for the initial coat.
