Excellent idea! I wonder how painting on a fine coating of acrylic would work to make the mirror a bit more 'permanent.'
The mylar has a first surface side and a second surface side. The aluminum deposition or the shinier side should go inside. This exposes the mylar to the elements and the aluminum coating to the interior.
