TV Remote Jammer!

I've had a few scuffles in my house over the TV remote so I decided to do something about it. I built a circuit that will block my TV and any device I choose from getting a signal from the normal remote control. I turn an ordinary remote into a jammer and the remote still works normally! Watch the video to see it work.

Step 1 What you need...

I chose to use a Sony remote control (SR-P30) because it has plenty of room inside to add my circuit and a 9 volt battery while keeping the remote fully functional.

The circuit parts:

1. Small circuit board
2. (1) 10k variable resistor
3. (1) 555 Timer
4. (4) resistors. 470ohm, 1k, 560ohm
5. (2) high speed switching diodes 1N4148
6. (1) transistor - BC557
7. (2) Infrared LED's
8. (2) 10nf capacitors
9. (1) 9 volt battery

Build the circuit based on the diagram below.

This is awesome. But my sister figured out what I was doing, and would not let me continue to hold the remote up. I am going to try and add more infrared LEDs so that it doesn't need to be aimed as precisely and looks less suspicious.

1-these circuit design is something really stupid becuse your Power supply is 9v and diode's turn on in 1v together "two diode" they need 2v so that means voltage applied on output of 555 timer!!!

2-after that the collector current is 1 mA "check whit multimeter or data sheet" and it's not enough for turn on a infrared led it shod be 50 mA at least!!!

3-you shod apply voltage to only one pin of transistor...in these circuit you apply voltage on both bass and emitter!!!

all these are wrong in electronic theories so....

COULD YOU PLEASE ANSWER MY 3 QUESTION AND DO NOT REMOVE THEM AGAIN FROM YOUR SITE???

Kip you forgot the 180ohm resistor in the "What you need" section

i build these circuit whit pcb and it dosen't work!
when you push a button on tv remote you can see LED's light whit mobile camera on top of the tv remote... it show's that LED work ...but in these circuit not?!

What 555 chips could I use I am using the 555CN (from radio shack) and my circuit is not working I have it on breadboard right now and am not sure what isn't working

How do yo adjust the frequency??????

you can adust the frequency by adjusting the preset (variable ressistor)

how could I get a longer range? the one I've built only works when I bring it close to the tv..

you can use tin foil to make a "reflector". Just place behind the LEDs in a three- wall configureation (or a U) and it should up the range if you point it at the set and remove any obstructing materials can't do too much harm. be careful not to short the LEDs out and g-luck!

The other remote controls IR leds make a stronger signal at that the ones on this circuit

Use HIGH powered IR leds or use IR leds and IR laser of low power

Kipkay you forgot to put on the resistors the 180ohm resistor
though everyone should realize it from the 4 resistors.

Too bad i dont have a oscilloscope Or i would know if it works. I tried it with a visible LED and it just turns on. I will try using a speaker and see what i get later...

But I was wondering why not just add a switch on the remote's IR LEDs in series instead of making a jammer circuit that would take some time.

Oh NUTS! dunno worry about ones and zeros or weird pot adjustments...just wire up and exclusive OR/Modulo two adder and a shift register to get a pseudo random sequence going...three chips will five over 8 million 388 thousand possible combination's for someone to look at.
