Step 2 Plan circuit

Follow the schematic and connect the components properly.

You can do this on a perfboard or a printed circuit board if you want to be fancier. I am selling printed circuit boards , please see my website for details on ordering boards.

Essentially the coil picks up a voltage, which is amplified by the op amp, which drives an LED.

I have placed the coil next to the LED so there is more of a one-to-one correspondence between detected field strength and LED brightness.

i don't understand where the opamp is i only see four outputs but in the finished scheme i see eight, help?

Is there a way you can dumb it down for those who just understand simple circuits?

I'm a bit confused by the diagram--specifically the poliarized capacitors listed as "COILX". Shouldn't the coils be represented by inductors?

Yes, I'm sorry about creating this confusion. I did this in order to create a circular "footprint" on the circuit boards about the size of the coil. There is a small note on the diagram explaining this.

Ahhh, that makes sense. I can't see the note on the diagram (unless you mean by labeling those capacitor symbols as coils), but now that you've clarified that's why they are in the diagram I'm not confused anymore. Thanks!
