Introduction: Take Duct Tape to the Next Level (Everywhere) - and Other Ways to Make a Fully Loaded Wallet.

Part One of Preparedness Series! Never be caught without this incredibly useful item. Completely inconspicuous (in wallet). My uses for this within a month include:
-Preventing a hotspot from turning into a blister (works better than commercial products like "moleskin"). Saved the day, would have had to miss a beautiful day in the mountains!
-Repair, then reinforce a Poncho during a rain storm.
-Covering all but one of a humming birds potential feeding sites so as to direct them into photo taking range (got the shot and took it off afterwards of course!)
-Repairing a badmitten raquet mid-game
-A woman used it to tie hair out of her face while rock-climbing.
-Covering the leads of a 9v that was shorting out on the metallic items of my pocket.
-Temporarily fixing a friend's shoe (no other tape had worked)
-Affix some cadmium-sulfide photo cells to a receiver for measuring oscillations in a laser to listen to a conversation (search this site for an idea of how 'laser window bounce' works).

This is how to keep a few yards of duct tape, and some miscellaneous useful items with you in your wallet!

Some pictures have the yellow boxes which I've envied so much :)

Shameless Advertising for my brand new, and currently crude, Photography Website. It is way in the early stages of construction (much to be added and revised, but I figure I'll start getting the word out). About 10% of my greatest photographs couldn't have been taken without duct tape to lend a helping stickiness, seal, spacer, cord, etc.

Step 1: Obtain Duct Tape and Old Card

Get some Duct Tape - The stuff that holds Maine (and my life) together.
Get 1 old Credit/Debit/Gift/Library/Identification Card.
lennyb has provided some great insight in the comments. Make sure your card is sturdy so that it may be used as an ice scraper.

Step 2: Wrap Tape Around Card

Wrap tape around the card until you have something that looks like the picture. Use as much as you are comfortable carrying in your wallet.
If you want to get maximum tape for the thickness, wrap lengthwise not width-wise, though this will limit your versatility and upgrade capabilities.
I originally used about twelve feet. By the time the picture is taken (seven months) I'm down to about five (I use it extremely sparingly, and re-use what I can) The age is the reason for the overall grunginess and lint collection.

Step 3: Embellish!

On the side there is enough room for some electrical tape, paper clips, safety pins, fish hooks, etc.

One cool option is to notch the ends of the card, and wrap thread or fishing line around it.
I have a simple set up in the picture, but it is useful, it gets the jobs done, I will upgrade.

Step 4: Pack and Forget!

Slide this into your wallet and forget about it until you need it... (which won't be long!!)

Add a cut-off ziptie that is as long as your wallet is to the bottom of the money slot. These have hundreds of uses - you'll soon find one. My personal favorite is fixing bait to hand-lines for catching blue-fin tuna.
