Picture of Hiking How-To: What I bring along with me.
Alright all you flower children/outdoorsy people, This here instructable is just a quick little video/photo's about what I personally like to take along when going on a hike or going camping, Your bag may differ, but this is mine, and I thought I would share, who knows, you may find some cool things in there you never would've thought to bring along!
Also, I do apologize for the less than phenomenal video quality. Youtube does not like me and my Good quality video files today.

For those of you that crave more than just a video, I have also provided a few photos as well just kind of describing the things in my mystical bag of safety. :0)

You use a really ultra light kit, i would only change the multitool for a leatherman(sorry i´m big fan of leatherman),your belt looks cool i will try to make one for my self

Yes I do, but once again, that kit is only if I'm going on a very light hike or to a swimming hole like said in the video, so it leans more towards first aid than survival a bit more just because I wouldn't be getting too deep into the wilderness. Now if I were going out on a long hike, or camping, you'd better believe my kit would contain more. Also, I would like to get a knife soon, I am without one sadly.
Well I hope you get a fixed blade knife for your longer hikes. If you haven't gotten one already. Good going. It's always nice to see more and more people getting out to do outdoor activities. It is rare to see as many younger children out doing these things because of the way video games are these days. Well I hope you enjoy your summer.

No map and compass ??? (There should be a compass on your person, besides any that might be packed away anywhere (that's a backup..)).

And your little ol' water bottle there would only be good for a couple of hours down here in Oz; (personally, I made the mistake of carrying too small a water-bottle when I was a teenager starting out..).

While I trust you also have a hat and sunnies with you, I would have also included them on the list..

(And: sunscreen and insect repellant should be essentials, especially in summer..).

I should have included it, but I got it after i made this instructable, I have a magnifying glass/Survival whistles/Compass/Thermometer/Flashlight tool. It's very useful.
Also, i finally got me a knife.
Good call on the sunscreen though! I am always forgetting it, Though I do never go on any adventure without my hat, bandanna, and sunglasses!
Insect repellent is a good call too, though I'm going to have to search around for one that won't break me out in hives personally. ;0)

I think a revisement is in need of this instructable.
That or make a whole new one for what I take on heavy hikes, or ones where I really could stand a chance of getting lost.
The places I go hiking on light trips aren't far from civilization at all, though you still could stand a chance of getting lost, if you've been there enough (such as myself, who has been going to these spots since I was a little kiddo with my dad and brother) you'd know your way around the area blindfolded.
Anyways, thanks for your suggestions of what else to add! Much appreciated!

As a scout we wrap duck tape around our water bottle, there's nothing more useful than duck tape!
amandaggogo (author)  Galonii2 years ago
That is a very clever idea! Never would of thought to tape around the water bottle. Thanks!

Thank you!
Wow... It's not just nice to bring a knife along... it's NECESSARY!

The bag you are using might be good in short distance hiking but for long distance, you need more than just a bag like that .It should be comfortable to carry and easy to take some stuff out the bag easy just in case emergency.
amandaggogo (author)  deqwer2 years ago
Yes, once again, I take this bag on light hikes, if I were going on a long heavy hike, I would have a proper bag rather than just that. :0)
I'm thinking of doing another video that's what I would actually have with me on a long hike, or if I ended up in a survival situation. :0)
