The potato plants will continue to grow well beyond the height of the Tater Totes and become top heavy and may fall over. At that time you may want to check around near the bottom of the bag for potatoes.

If you're careful, you may be able to harvest spuds without damaging the plants, allowing the smaller potatoes to continue growing.

Happy harvest!!

These are fantastic...I am wondering if you think the totes would work if instead of putting the tote on the ground, I built a foot deep wood box filled with dirt (that I would change each year) to put underneath the tote.

Thank you so much for getting back to me. I am very encouraged by the thought. Will take photos and keep you posted of the developments.

I have anumber of potates plants which have spontaneously sprouted on my compost pile...Do I need to cover the main stalk to avoid poisonous potatoes? I have not checked them in weeks (they are out in the "back 40").

Sounds like fun! Thanks... will get to sewing for next year. Have you re-used them more than 1 year?
