Step 2 Center Medallion

Center: 8 picots(p) separated(sep) by 2 double stitches(ds), tie, cut and hide ends.
Outside: ring(r) 8ds join to center picot(+) 8ds close(cl) reverse work(rw), r 4ds 1p 3ds 1p 1ds cl do not reverse(dnr), r 1ds+3ds 1p 3ds 1p 1ds, Split ring(sr) 1ds+3ds/4ds cl rw

Continue in this way around the center ring joining the top picots of the 2nd and 4th clovers to the eye wires. Join the 8th clover to the first by the side picots.

Refer the picture for joins.

i am very very lost... im not new to tatting and i know how to make split rings but i just cant figure out how the three rings work onto the top of the clover.

am i supposed to close the ring before starting the split ring?

Congrats for the awesome job, have to tell you that my wife loved it and I decided to try to do one for her. This was my first dive on the "threads and needle" world, but I could get it just fine...
...until the clover instructions :(. I got a bit lost there, have already tried to turn it around, upside down, re read, but I can't seem to get it right. On a comment bellow you said that they should be a split ring, a ring and a split ring. I'm assuming (please correct me if I'm wrong) that the normal ring is the oposite to the big ring, and the splits are the side rings. On this case, is the first ring you describe (r 4ds 1p 3ds 1p 1ds cl dnr) another split ring?
NEVERMIND!!! I got it now :D What a mindbreaker this was, ehehehehheheh

I'm so sorry for being such a newb. I did both your other tutorials and understood those perfect(never would have learned otherwise). I'm getting stuck on what you do after you make the split ring. Am I just totally overlooking somehing??

Each clover consists of three rings on top and the main ring that goes to the center. the top three rings are a split ring, a normal ring and a split ring, so to continue, you start with another split ring to make the next clover...I hope that clears it up a bit.

so after the split ring make another split ring then a normal ring then large ring then split ring and repeat?

I actually do the large ring following the split, then the top(normal) ring, but actually either way will get you there...it's been a while since I made one, so I'm having problems visualizing and communicating the steps right now, sorry if I'm not helping.

Right before where it says split ring, are you supposed to close that ring (1ds+3ds 1p 3ds 1p 1ds, Split...)?

Yes, you close the ring before starting the split ring

If I am doing this right (which I'm obviously not :-) this "+" would mean to connect it to the original ring of 8 picots? But in my head this is supposed to be the second (middle) of the little 3 rings at the top of the clover? Should this be a picot instead of a join? Could you say this instruction in a different way so that I can have another chance to puzzle it out?

As this seems to be an issue, going from clover to clover requires split rings. If you aren't familiar with them, check out my other instructable for the tatted necklace.

I think I'm missing something here; is there a third ring of the clover missing? it just isn't looking right...

Think you could go from the 1st round to the 2nd round by split ring (1 stitch or so), mock picot to the 1st ring of the 2nd round?

Yes, that's actually what I do, but I was trying be as straight forward as possible!
