Tatted Princess Necklace and Earring Set

I needed something to wear with the beautiful pink dress I wanted to wear for Marvalous Monday at work.  So I whipped together this earring and necklace set.  It only requires regular rings and chains and is pretty simple to put together.  And it is, of course, pink!

Step 1: Supplies

You just need the regular old tatting basic supplies
  1. Crochet Cotton Size 10
  2. Tatting Needle Size 5
  3. 2 Earrings
  4. 4 - 6 Jump Rings
  5. Clasp

Step 2: The Necklace

Time to get started tatting:
  1. R 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 cl. k. rw.  (2 ds, 7 picots sep. by 2 ds, finish with 2 ds.)
  2. Ch 4 - 4 - 4 k. rw.
  3. R 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 2  cl. k. rw. (2 ds, 4 picots sep by 2 ds, finish with 2 ds.)
  4. Ch 4 - 4 - 4 k. rw.
  5. R 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 connect to center (4th) picot of previous ring 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 cl. k. do not rw.
  6. Repeat 1 - 5 until the desired length.  You will end with #5.

Your necklace is done.  It is going to be really wavy-like, so you are going to want to at least iron it if not iron it, starch it, and iron it again.

Step 3: Earrings

I needed something to go along with the necklace, so I whipped up these earrings to match.  These are almost the same as the necklace except you don't repeat the pattern and you extend the pattern a little.
  1. R 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 cl. k. rw.  (2 ds, 7 picots sep. by 2 ds, finish with 2 ds.)
  2. Ch 4 - 4 - 4 k. rw.
  3. R 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 2  cl. k. rw. (2 ds, 4 picots sep by 2 ds, finish with 2 ds.)
  4. Ch 4 - 4 - 4 k. rw.
  5. R 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 connect to center (4th) picot of previous ring 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 cl. k. rw.
  6. Ch 4 - 4 - 4 k. rw.
  7. R 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 2  cl. k. rw. (2 ds, 4 picots sep by 2 ds, finish with 2 ds.)
  8. Ch 4 - 4 - 4 k. connect to the bottom of the first ring you created, double knot and hide the ends.

Step 4: Finish it all off

To finish it all up, I ironed all the pieces.  Then I spray starched them and let them dry.  (Before I spray starch them, I like to make sure all the stitches are laying right and I pull on the decretive picots and make sure they are laying right as well.)  Once they were dry, I ironed them again.

To attach my findings, I decided to put two jump rings on each end of the necklace (partly to make sure things lined up, partly to make it just a smidge longer), and added the clasp to one end.

For my earrings I just attached an earring to a jump ring and then attached that to the tatted ring that had no picots.  You are done!  Put them on and be a pink princess!

Thank you for the wonderful necklace pattern. I just finished making one for my wife. I plan on giving it to her for Valentines Day. I hope she likes it. I just started tatting a week ago.

This is absolutely gorgeous. Tatting is at risk of being a lost art and you bring it right into today's world with this bright and beautiful piece! I rated it a 5!

So pretty. From the thumbnail I thought the ear rings were skulls. That would be cool. But this is really pretty.

When you say whipped up did it take hours and hours? This just looks too delicate and intricate to be a quick craft! I love the color!
Penolopy Bulnick (author) in reply to RollerScrapperMar 13, 2012. 12:14 PM
I would say an hour or two maybe. It is always hard for me to tell because I get distracted and stop to take pictures as I go. It really doesn't take much time, especially when you have a repeating pattern like this because you are just doing the same thing over and over and over again :)

And I like the color too!
