Teddy Bear tutorial and pattern

Teddy Bear tutorial and pattern
With this pattern and tutorial you can make teddy bears our of pretty much any kind of fabric. For mine I used fleece because i wanted it to be very soft but you can use the normal animal fur fabric if you want.

The pattern I made comes with letters that indicate how to assemble but just in case I also added steps and tips.

MATERIALS:

  • 1 yard of fabric for the body ( I used cream color  fleece)
  • 1/2 yard of fabric for the color details ( I used light brown)
  • 1 set of animal eyes 18mm
  • small piece of felt for the nose
  • Stuff material ( I used polyester filling )
  • Sewing machine
  • Pattern
Hope you enjoy and make your own teddy bear =)

  • oso2.jpg
  • oso3.jpg
The fist this is to download the pattern, print it and cut each piece.

Then you need to trace all of your pieces on the fabric.

For all of those that say you need 2, 1 reverse; after tracing the front, turn the pattern and trace the second piece.

I am going to try a practice run first. I want to make each of my 3 children a bear out of my wedding dress. I has some stains on it that won't come out after a fire. My sister made each of us a bear from a handmade quilt my grandmother made so I thought this would be a good idea for my dress. Thank you for the pattern and tutorial. I hope it works!

I made this with some left over velvet for my daughter's 3rd birthday and mine came out a little different as I overstuffed it and put the legs on backwards (at least it seems like I did as they don't look quite right to me). However, my daughter loved her bear so much that she has not put it down ever since. I'm planning on making another for my 1 year old son, who was also transfixed by this big black velvet bear. Thanks so much for the pattern. I truly enjoyed making it and will post pics of the two bears once I'm done with them. Hopefully this time, the legs get sewn on right :-D

How difficult is this bear to make? I am a very, very unskilled sewer, but, my daughter's step mom passed away and I want to make this for my ex and another for her son out of her favorite bathrobe for them to cuddle with, so, I cannot mess the robe up, I get one chance.

I made this bear once and I'm currently making another one.
I had a lot of issues shaping the mouth. I don't quite get how to make it look the way you did. On my first one I just left the mouth the way it was before any shaping and stuck a button on it for the nose and it looks like the rat's nose from the Muppets.
Can you help me out with this?
I also think it would be helpful if you posted more pictures of each step. The ones you have up now are very vague. When I attached the mouth for the first time it took me 5 different tries to get it on right.

How do you sew the head to the body while keeping it neat?

I love it and really want to make it for a friend of mine! Do you think any material wouldn't work... I was thinking of possibly attempting a fake fur... Also I can't download the template at the moment... It comes up with a server error or something =S Your blog is awesome though! x

Hi,
I am making this now...so far have bought all materials, cut all pattern pieces, and starting tracing onto fabric. One question - besides guessing/looking at photo - how do I know which pieces are which color (main or accent color)?

And any guess as to the overall size of this bear? It's starting to look quite a bit bigger than I thought! lol.

Thanks.

that's an adorable bear! so far the head looks great I'm having a little trouble with the arms though. it seems like the back is a little shorter then the front.
May 14, 2010. 5:36 PMDeeddeed says:
Could you explain the back a little more, please? (the last two pages on the pdf file) And the legs? I think the round piece with Q and R on it is the brown part of the leg, but I'm not sure. Also, whats the bottom for the leg? I'm a bit slow at this stuff.

Thanks! This is adorable! I hope you continue making patterns-you're very good.
