Starting from a commercially available pattern, Burda 8275. I made a 10th Doctor coat. Still needed are shoulder pads and buttons. The coat is a brown suede like upholstery material from a local fabric retailer and the lining which looks purple is actually a royal blue coat lining also from a local fabric retailer( not the same as the outer material).

The pattern instructions are bang on but rather difficult to follow. Some modifications done were to add extra length to the bottom and no sleeve adjuster cuffs. I added 14 inches to the length to get the bottom of the coat to just above my ankle. The sleeves will need to be taken in a little for the tailored look but all in all the coat seems to match the 10th Doctor look.

The total cutting and sewing time was about 10 hours to this point. I fear that I may have to make the buttons needed for the final coat.

I am not really leaning... The camera was at a little of an angle... The lamp is not really that big...

I did the quick and easy version. I went to good will, found a coat for 8:00 dollars, and done!

nice instructable! :) do you think you create one for David Tennant's fitted brown suit too?

I don't think that I have the necessary tailoring skills for that... yet...

Am I the only one to notice that this is, in fact, a MULTIPURPOSE coat? It acts as the Tenth Doctor', but also a Browncoat brown coat from Firefly! Ingenious sir!
I started watching Doctor Who, I unfortunately could not get into it, awesome show but not my bag. Though I do agree it is a multipurpose coat, once I read multipurpose I was like oh yeah, Firefly, but I also just love coats and things that flow. I will no doubt make a coat in a similar fashion to this. Thanks for giving us a great looking coat Random_Canadian. :D
david tennant played the 9th and 10th doctor. he died and regenerated and keep his same form.
for one season I thought that the ninth doctor was played by Christopher Eccleston...
David Tennant only played the 10th Doctor. He played the Doctor in seasons 2-4. Christopher Eccleston played the 9th Doctor in season 1 of the new series.
Yeah, uuhh hedgesci, thats not true..
Awesome!

One question though. Does it have pockets which are bigger on the inside than the out?
Nicely done. =) Best use of that reference ever!!! =D
It's an improvement from the officially-licensed replicas. A vast improvement, in fact, because I've seen the "real" ones up close--boy, are they flimsy.
wow instructions please
Best Doctor to date, however I am leaning to the eleventh now that his first season is over.

Tennant had that silly grin and the glasses.
Smith has a Bow Tie. Bow Ties are cool. Fezzes are not however.
Fezzes are so cool! what ARE you talking about!?
I agree, something just isn't quite right with Smith yet...
cool! D.T is still my favorite Dr Who.
Thanks and I totally agree... It's kind of funny that whenever he shows up elsewhere I keep expecting to hear the TARDIS...
I'm not familiar with the "Tenth Doctor" what is that from?
Doctor Who, this coat was worn by the Tenth person to play the Doctor in the series. Check out BBC.
