Introduction: The Amazing Mega Double Oreo Cookie Thing

About: I work on a Yacht where I am the Chef and SCUBA instructor.

The Amazing Mega Double Oreo Cookie thing

This is a chewy cookie that’s wrapped around an OREO cookie. Its like a cookie that ate a cookie to save you the time and social stigma of eating 2 cookies! For the cover picture I whipped some cream piped it on top and finished it off with a bit of girly ribbon.

There are 2 ways to make this amazing franken-cookie. The easy way and the fun way. I am a chef so I am very much in to making things from scratch. If you do want to skip the measuring and mixing then feel free to go to the store, purchace some cookie dough and OREO’s and  skip to the part where I start putting this beauty together

*Warning*
Please try not to eat too many of these because you will probably fall in to a diabetic coma.

Please be kind this is my first attempt - apologies for the low res photos, my internet connection sucks - I live on a boat in the middle of nowhere!!!

Step 1: What You Need

For the long and completely satisfying method you will need the following:
(if your all about easy gratification, that’s cool - buy yourself some cookie dough and Oreos and skip to step 7

Ingredents
½ cup of unsalted butter
½ cup of white sugar
¼ cup of brown sugar
1 egg
1 1/4 cups of flour
1 teaspoon of vinalla extract ( of ½ a pod of vanilla if your feeling fancy)
1 teaspoon of almond extract ( optional )
¼ teaspoon of salt
½ teaspoon of baking soda
1 cup of chocolate chips
OREO’S

(optional extras - white chocolate chips, dried fruit or nuts -PEANUT BUTTER see notes)

Equipment
Silicon baking mat or Parchment paper
Baking tray
Oven ( well obviously)
Spoons
Measuring cups/jug
Forks
2 bowls
Rolling pin
Ziploc bag

Cupcake papers OR
Round metal forms (rounds) - but only if you are cheffy and really care what your cookies look like and want them to look like the cover pic!!

Step 2: Preheat Oven to 375 F or 190 C

Preheat oven to 375 F or 190 C

Line oven pan with a silicon baking mat or parchment paper

Cream butter and sugar - when I say "cream" I mean : let the butter soften so you can work with it, pour the sugar’s over it and mash it with a fork until its all light and creamy :)

Step 3: Add Egg Vanilla and Almond Extracts

Add egg vanilla and almond extracts, whisk till the ingredients are fully incorporated and the mix is creamy and smooth

Step 4: Add Salt and Baking Soda to Flour and Mix

In a separate bowl add salt and baking soda to flour and mix

Step 5: Pour Flour Mix in to Butter Mixture

Pour flour mix in to butter mixture and mix until just combined _ this will give you quite a wet dough

Step 6: Beat Chocolate Chips

Put chocolate chips in a zip lock and beat them with a rolling pin until the chunks are small ( this makes it easier to work the dough round the Oreo)

Step 7: The Easy Way to Bake These Cookies

If you skipped the dough making and bought your dough from the store then welcome back - its time to get awesome with that cookie dough!

There are 2 ways to bake this combo - the easy way and the fancy way

This is the easy way

Depending on how messy you are you can either use your hands or a spoon for this step.
- Dollop a ping pong ball size ball of dough on the silicon sheet
- Take Oreo out of packet and put it in the center of the dollop then push down gently ( you don’t want it to go straight though)
- Repeat until tray is full - make sure there are 1 - 2 inch gaps between the cookie dough
- Bake until golden brown 15-20 mins
This method will make your cookies look like chocolate chip ravioli

Step 8: Remove From Oven

When the cookies are golden brown and you have removed them from the oven you will probably need to cut them in to shape with a sharp knife/cookie cutter and/or separate the cookies then allow them to cool just long enough so they don’t burn your mouth when you devour them.

Step 9: The Fancy Way

The fancy way

- Put metal forms on the silicon sheet
- Dollop a bit of the cookie mix in to the form
- Press down
- Put an Oreo on the top
- Press down
- Dollop more cookie mix on top of Oreo
- Smooth out to the sides of the form with fingers or spoon.

If you chose to put the cookie in the metal forms then (and I cant stress this enough  )ALLOW TO COOL before you attempt to remove them from the forms

**** To add peanut butter to this already amazing mix all you have to do is spread it on top of the Oreo before you 'close' it with the second lump of cookie dough

Step 10: Ideas

Ideas

- You can add a little extra surprise to this cookie ( as if it was not awesome enough)
Before you put the second set of cookie mix on the top you can add Peanut butter, Cream Cheese,
Candy bars, Jelly - Pretty much anything you can think of to make it that much more delicious
Then close the cookie up with the second layer of cookie dough - I highly recommend using the forms or cup cake papers if you go down this road. The cookie mix is quite sloppy and spreads a lot and can leave
your surprise exposed . Not that, that will matter because it all tastes the same

-Another nice idea is to use mini multi colour candy coated chocolates instead of the chocolate chips. In the UK we have mini smarties. This gives the cookies a whimsical brightly colored edge that goes down well when baking for or with kids

- To make these cookies presentation/photo worthy I whipped up some cream and applied it with a piping bag then stuck some pretty ribbon on it. Really any frosting, icing, ice-cream or cream can only make these cookies taste better

- If you hate Oreo's then forget them, you could substitute for any ready made cookie or candy bar..............I think I would love to see some photos in any one attempts this :) Let me know how it goes!!
