Instructables
First of all, DON'T BUILD THIS. During all the experimentation with this thing, lots of stuff has gone wrong, and shit got pretty real a few times (pardon my language, but DANG, that was dangerous).

IF YOU DO BUILD THIS: Safety first, second, and third. Everyone involved wears thick long sleeved clothing, full face protection, gloves, etc. Have fire extinguishing things on hand. Shoot this in a huge empty field, preferably in the middle of the winter and very far from civilization. Have a clear area to run away if something goes wrong.

This build was originally designed to launch rockets for airsoft, but after many testing mishaps and the overall un-reliability of the system, I have decided that it is only fit for shooting for fun, not at other people. Also, it is most likely illegal in all civilized places, and generally isn't a toy. Any rockets you shoot out of this thing should be models without a payload.

I ran a few dozen rockets through this thing, with mixed results. The best rocket launched from this went somewhere in the neighborhood of 600 feet or so when launched at a 40 degree angle. We never found the rocket, and definitely pissed off the neighbors.

A few were designed to blast airsoft bb's out when they landed or ran out of fuel. The first one I made worked like a dream, but after that, they all failed more or less spectacularly, with one managing to coat the side of a tree in molten plastic. Not fun.

I can't pick out a specific launch that I would classify as the worst, but a few involved diving to the ground, or dropping the launcher and running away. Needless to say, operating this thing needs some serious safety gear.

In the future I might make a few rockets for this thing and show some launch videos, but at this point it is a project in progress, put on hold due to extreme danger and going to college.

I built it out of 4-inch diameter DWV-D drainpipe, held together with nothing but hot glue. It is approximately 4 and a half feet long, and weighs around ten pounds when empty.

This launcher is basically a more specialized version of Rwctt's launcher, made from lighter weight pipe, with a modified ignition system made from an Estes rocket engine ignitor. I do not have any construction pictures of the launcher, because at the time of construction, my camera was without a memory card. That's probably just as well. If you need instructions for something quite like this, go to the link below, his is safer, better toleranced, and stronger than mine, as well as better looking.

Rwctt's launcher provided the basic inspiration for this project, and his is probably better than mine.

You sir, must be part Chuck Norris. I give you large amounts of respect and I too desire to recreate this astounding creation.

Careful, making this thing is positively stupid.

Like, god, what a terrible idea.

But yeah, go ahead. Following the directions I link to will make you a great little launcher.

What does it shoot?

bottles full of bbs

Well, that was an earlier design. I abandoned that after having too many of my rockets catch fire and explode, shooting molten plastic for ten feet. Not good.
Must not say I told you so....

Feel free, for you would be right.
flaming death

The rockets have a soft tip, so if they hit someone, they will not cause serious injury, no more than a bruise (and maybe a few horrific burns and charred clothes, but that doesn't matter).
ilpug (author)  urtlesquirt2 years ago
I see your point, but the way the rocket is designed, there is a very small likelyhood of a serious burn, in the vary small chance that it hits someone in the first place. I never said this was a good idea though

i made one that shooots bottles of water (they explode and release water on impact) LOL

"Click".... and following,
Just as a question, How do you not have TONS of views??
I personally like your instructables, and only 20,000 views is insulting, seeing what some of the other guys have.
ilpug (author)  ELITE-012 years ago
Thanks for the love man. I really don't know why I have so few views. I am planning on improving a lot of my Ibles (this one included) and adding a seriously badass one soon, so hopefully that helps. Once I get a better internet connection I will probably do some videos too.

Can you post an instructable on how to build the rockets. If you did I would appreciate it very much.
ilpug (author)  Dearden8052 years ago
the rockets are kind of still in the experimental stage. I've done about 20 test-shots, and most of them don't work well. The best range I got was 900 feet with a dummy rocket. I got one to explode perfectly on impact, but that was only 70 feet away. There have been about five different basic designs so far. Once i get one that works well, I will post it.

i couldn't agree any more on the warning.

shrapnel rockets made from soda bottles. I talk about it more in the introduction.

Ilpug, please use the reply button.

i usually do, my stupid mistake. how do you like the launcher?
chopstx ilpug3 years ago
Its great. I wish i could make and use one, but my area isn't as open and is more populated than most areas. :(
ilpug (author)  chopstx3 years ago
yeah, unfortunately it does require a lot of space and privacy to use
