The Annihilator- An Airsoft Rocket Launcher by ilpug
This is my Airsoft rocket launcher. I built it out of 4-inch diameter DWV-D drainpipe, held together with nothing but hot glue. It is approximately 4 and a half feet long, and weighs around ten pounds when empty. It fires shrapnel rockets, powered by D-class Estes model rocket engines. The rockets go about 200 feet, and are marginally accurate. I make my rockets out of soda bottles, and when they land, they blast a shower of BBs about fifteen feet in all directions, accompanied with a loud BANG. The rockets have a soft tip, so if they hit someone, they will not cause serious injury, no more than a bruise. I will post an Instructable for the rockets soon enough, once i get some disposable cash to make some more. This launcher is basically a more specialized version of Rwctt's launcher, with a store-bought ignition system and made of different materials. I do not have any construction pictures of the launcher, because at the time of construction, my camera was without a memory card. if you need instructions for something quite like this, go to the link below.

that is a regulation-size soccer ball (football for the rest of the world) for scale.

Rwctt's launcher provided the basic inspiration for this project, and his is just as good as mine.

Step 1: Breaks down for Portability

I made this in four parts. listed from top to bottom, these are: optional end cap spark arrestor, rear section with shoulder rest, middle coupler with ignition system, and the front section with rotating handle. All that is needed for break down is a small screwdriver or pair of pliers. This launcher is designed to be as tactically viable as possible, so it can be broken down and assembled quickly when the situation demands it.

bottles full of bbs

Well, that was an earlier design. I abandoned that after having too many of my rockets catch fire and explode, shooting molten plastic for ten feet. Not good.

Must not say I told you so....

Feel free, for you would be right.

The rockets have a soft tip, so if they hit someone, they will not cause serious injury, no more than a bruise (and maybe a few horrific burns and charred clothes, but that doesn't matter).

I see your point, but the way the rocket is designed, there is a very small likelyhood of a serious burn, in the vary small chance that it hits someone in the first place. I never said this was a good idea though

"Click".... and following,
Just as a question, How do you not have TONS of views??
I personally like your instructables, and only 20,000 views is insulting, seeing what some of the other guys have.
ilpug (author) says: Dec 25, 2011. 6:45 PM
Thanks for the love man. I really don't know why I have so few views. I am planning on improving a lot of my Ibles (this one included) and adding a seriously badass one soon, so hopefully that helps. Once I get a better internet connection I will probably do some videos too.

Can you post an instructable on how to build the rockets. If you did I would appreciate it very much.
ilpug (author) says: Dec 20, 2011. 9:05 PM
the rockets are kind of still in the experimental stage. I've done about 20 test-shots, and most of them don't work well. The best range I got was 900 feet with a dummy rocket. I got one to explode perfectly on impact, but that was only 70 feet away. There have been about five different basic designs so far. Once i get one that works well, I will post it.

shrapnel rockets made from soda bottles. I talk about it more in the introduction.

i usually do, my stupid mistake. how do you like the launcher?
chopstx says: Apr 24, 2011. 1:20 PM
Its great. I wish i could make and use one, but my area isn't as open and is more populated than most areas. :(

yeah, unfortunately it does require a lot of space and privacy to use
