Introduction: The Birthday Defun-inator

Picture of The Birthday Defun-inator

Our neighbor's son was having a Phineas and Ferb themed Birthday and we wanted to bake something for the occasion. Knowing that our Perry The Platypus cake would most likely look like frosted green meatloaf with marshmallow eyes, we came up with the idea for an "inator" ala Dr. Doofenshmirtz. Made with a box, cardboard, foam, printed pieces and a Listerine bottle, the "Birthday Defun-inator" turns yummy chocolate ganache cupcakes into vegetables with evil dip!  Well, ok it doesn't REALLY turn them into vegetables...see, back in, no, wait we don't have time for a back story!

Why not a full Instructable? Well, it was kind of a 'found object' piece of art that developed as we went along, but I'll probably post the recipe for Doofenshmirtz's Own Evil Dip soon!

Instructables and Phineas and Ferb, they just seem made for each other!

*** Update, the "inator" inspired the birthday boy so much he's making his own so I will post a photos when it's complete.

Thank you so much for this GREAT idea, and the super directions to make it happen. Some good friends of ours made the "Defun-inator" for my son's 7th birthday party yesterday ... and it was a HIT! Thanks for letting us borrow your creativity. I shared your site with my friends on FB. Here are pix of the party:

That is just too awesome! Good work, and definitely cool that Dan Provenmire came by... Maybe it was to make sure you weren't infringing on his highly intellectual copyrights =P

really really cool. nice work.

Many thanks! It was a lot of fun to build and the food portion was too. I'm going to get the ingredients for more dip today and re-create that for the Instructable. Right now we still have cupcakes left so I won't be making those for a while. Leave it to a Dr. Doofenshmirtz device to backfire--everyone wanted the veggies!

This is awesome. Were the vegetables real, or cupcakes decorated to look like vegetables?

GeekFilter (author)scoochmaroo2011-08-30

The vegetables are real (Carrots, broccoli, celery and tomatoes) and there was 3 types of dip, Tzatziki, Tomato Herb and just herb. I'll put the recipes up the next chance I get. Things were so crazy I didn't get a chance to document the whole process.

You actually had the actual Dr Doofenshmirtz at your actual P&F themed party??

I'm forty-three, and I'm jealous!

GeekFilter (author)Kiteman2011-08-29

He's a friend of the neighbor's it's not like he's for hire!

He was very gracious about the whole thing. It's gotta be either strange, or like being at the office, to go to a kids b-day party themed with the work you do every day--even fun work.

He did mention it was the first "inator" he had ever seen anyone make, so that made my day!
