Well, so I wanted to make a project with para cord and thought I would make something really easy. Then I decided to make THIS CHAIR :).

Of course after the sore hands and increased muscle strength to my grips I am not sure if I would do it again, but it was a lot of fun!

I will show you the prettiest version of the chair first!

Step 1: Come Up With the Idea and Do a Drawing!

So this is my first Instructable, so bear with me. Its a little last second submission as well. But HERE WE GO!

I had the thought to make something that would be fun to make and also useful for me. So I figure I would go with a CHAIR!

It may have been a bit ambitious but its been a fun journey so far!

If you have an idea, draw it in a notebook!

Step 2: Make a Scale Model of Said Drawing.

Ook, now make it look a little prettier and do a scale cutting. Rulers still optional at this point.

Step 3: Now That You Have a Rough Working. Time to Make an Actual Illustrator File.

This was actually my first time using illustrator. Its not the greatest of jobs and it was pretty hard learning but still enjoyable.

I made sure that I had all of the measurements correct and squared. The rectangle was my rookie attempt to keep things square and how to keep aware of where the intersecting parts will be.

I later learned that I didnt need that at all.. Yay Learning Curve!

Step 4: Export Dxf and See If It Works in Sketchup.

Again this was my first time using Illustrator. To be able to export or to use the program I had to do some Google/YouTube searches.

I exported my file as a .dxf which then I imported into Sketchup. Apparently importing dxf into sketchup is only available on pro trial and pro version. I am still on my pro trial.

After learning that I didnt screw everything up it was time to find a Laser Cutter!

Step 5: Woulda Coulda Shoulda

So after getting really excited about finding someone who can cut it LAZERZ make sure that your files are complete and finished.

Whooooops.

I could have drawn in the slots and the holes if I had done the proper planning, but I was too excited!

COMMENCE THE LASER CUTTING!

Step 6: Fix the Flaws and Measure the Cuts.

The laser cutter worked beautifully and now I am fixing the errors that I should have planned for.

Find the midpoint on your intersecting pieces and measure appropriately.

Also, using your friends garage and tools is quite convenient as well.

Step 7: Drills Some Holes and String It Up!

Now this is where you can get creative! Drill some holes grab some gloves PULL HARD AND DONT SURRENDER!

Step 8: String String and String.

Now this step almost broke me, pulling on those strings and tying them off was enough to make me want to throw in the towel. Looks like better prep and planning would have helped me.

But now that I have pulled that paracord tight and tighter its time to get someone to sit in it!

OMG it works! It didnt break! I will update with more video and photos soon!

So as you figured its a webbed strung together base. The points drilled around the plywood are holding everything together. When the chair was first sat in it was somewhat terrifying.

Hence, the terror chair!

So much tension but it was all worth it!
