The Coffee Cup Coffee Table

I have been a long time follower of Instructables and have just now gotten around to becoming a member. This is my first Instructable so cut me some slack :).

The Coffee Cup Coffee table

I love drinking coffee, but hate making a huge carbon footprint. So what better way to use my old coffee cups than for a coffee table? It's a win win situation.  I have created a simple design for a table and I should have one built myself within a year.  And, yes, it is architecturally plausible to build a table from coffee cups.

Step 1: Materials

materials copy.jpg
Materials:
- 365 of the same type of coffee cups (one a day for a year!)
- glass cover piece (optional)
-super glue or some other type of adhesive ( I use super glue because I know it will work)
- Cardboard (or some type of flat base.)
-Measuring tape or ruler
-long straight edge (such as a yard stick)

lol Next time make sure the sun isn't shining through the bottom of your superimposed picture of your table makes it look fake this would be neet with those wasted plastic cups you get from fast food joints !

I think it might work better as a small side table. Also, you should have actual images, it helps more. :)

Not sure I want litter in my living room!

leave him be. if you don't believe his "theory" instructable will work, why don't you make an instructable on how a coffee cup coffee table using his method will not work, why, and how to improve INSTEAD of bashing him because he laid out a perfectly good "theory". His point seems to me to be a very plausible idea on how to recycle coffee cups. Which unless your an almighty know-it-all, YOU learned something new or got a new idea flowing through your head by reading his instructable. I myself have not made an instructable because it is a lot of work to document and write out instructions, however, due to the nature of this (mostly) wonderful community there is less that zero need to harass anyone for their attempt (or success) at writing their own instructable regardless of how long you've belonged or how many instructables you've written. Good job algar. Don't stop writing instructables because some people don't like your effort as there is ten fold the amount of people who appreciate your effort.

 This looks like a theory.
algar32 (author) in reply to NinzerbeanMay 9, 2010. 6:12 AM
No... It works. Anyone with any engineering experience can vouch for me on that.
Ninzerbean in reply to algar32May 9, 2010. 6:17 AM
What  I mean is that the table looks like a picture floating in the air.
algar32 (author) in reply to NinzerbeanMay 9, 2010. 10:29 AM
Lol no... I didn't make it yet... Did you read the instructable? If you want I can take it down... I was just trying to give the community a good way to recycle their cups....

jovino in reply to algar32May 13, 2010. 11:07 AM
So, since you did not actually *make* this, it is still just theory.

Sorry.
algar32 (author) in reply to jovinoMay 13, 2010. 7:09 PM
No it works.  I technically didn't "make it" but using cups stacked in similar formations has been done many times.

So yah "sorry".

Btw I think your missing the point... The point is to teach people how to do something. You can call it whatever your little heart desires.  I spent a lot of time making this and would appreciate it if people like you would just bug off. Saving your trolling for somewhere else.
jovino in reply to algar32May 14, 2010. 11:27 AM
Trolling? Really?

You need to chill on your defensive stance. Your project is still only theory because you did not actually build it.
algar32 (author) in reply to jovinoMay 14, 2010. 5:17 PM
Please just stop. We really dont need you trolling.
jovino in reply to algar32May 14, 2010. 10:22 PM
I doubt you have a very clear idea of what a troll is.

And, who exactly is "we?"
algar32 (author) in reply to jovinoMay 17, 2010. 1:36 PM
Look man I am not looking to argue... I was just trying to give an idea that will work to the community. If youngsters like yourself have time to troll around instructables thats fine. Just leave me out of it.
jovino in reply to algar32May 17, 2010. 2:33 PM
There you go throwing out that "troll" comment again! You might want to take into consideration that I just called it like I see it: a theory. And if that is trolling, then you really need to reevaluate whether you belong on Instructables or not -- especially if you can't take a little criticism.

I've been on this site since 2006 and I'm most certainly older than you are, so take that for what it's worth.

Good luck with your theories. ;)
algar32 (author) in reply to jovinoMay 27, 2010. 7:32 PM
Listen buddy its comments like "good luck with your theories" that people really just don't appreciate.  Ive been around this site since around 2004 and have not made an instructable until around now. I made one and I guess it just wasn't that good.  I really dont care all that much... but believe it or not people do not like to go look at their first few comments and see:

"So, since you did not actually *make* this, it is still just theory.

Sorry. "

If you wanted to inform me that it was a "theory". Than you could have said "although it is 100% architecturally sure to work you have not actually made one .  I do not no why I am posting this comment because you already clearly stated that you had not made one yet.  I suppose I just like to write random comments."

Your friend,
Leopard boy

And then I would have responded I disagree with you, but I suppose we can each have our own opinions. Have a nice day.

absolute zero in reply to jovinoMay 19, 2010. 1:01 PM
It is not a theory.
Dictionary.com defines "Theory" as an untested idea or opinion. The same formation of cups have been used to build other things, so it has been tested an been proven to work.
Ninzerbean in reply to algar32May 9, 2010. 10:55 AM
haha, sorry, I read so many 'ibles a day I must have gone into skim mode. It teaches me a lesson, so it's all good.
algar32 (author) in reply to NinzerbeanMay 9, 2010. 4:14 PM
No problem man. I apologize myself for being a little rude in my comments. Ive just been a little grumpy and tired lately :(.
Ninzerbean in reply to algar32May 14, 2010. 11:46 AM
Maybe you might want to change the title of your 'ible to "An idea for a coffee cup table". That may save people the confusion about this 'ible.
absolute zero says: May 19, 2010. 1:02 PM
Awsome idea!!

If i drank coffee and had a house to put the table in, I'd sooooo make one!
James Longpaw says: May 10, 2010. 1:47 PM
from a engineering aspect it would work just fine. I would just like to see some pics of you building it (no offence). any way this would be a good way to recycle all thous cups, I have seen some people that use that many cups (or go to starbucks) in about one month to make something like this. anyway awsome idea.
algar32 (author) in reply to James LongpawMay 10, 2010. 2:56 PM
Thanks. I would really like to get some pictures up. I got the idea when I first saw the contest so I have not had much time to collect cups.  Once I get enough cups I will be sure to post pics.
lanceearlhaines says: May 9, 2010. 1:14 AM
Did you make it? If not this is a Fauxstructable, a word I just coined for you.
