A sling to hurl oversize water balloons, waterballs, zucchini your mother grows that you would rather fling than eat, and anything else that will fit in the sling. Can be built in about 10 minutes, and materials can be found around the house.

P.S. Don't forget to rate it if you like it :)

RUN-AWAY!!!, RUN-AWAY!!! love that movie

I love it! How much range can you get?
sharlston in reply to SirBrittanicvsFeb 13, 2010. 9:34 AM
i sling golf balls about 100 yard
SirBrittanicvs in reply to sharlstonFeb 21, 2010. 12:05 PM
Nice, I just braided a new one on Friday. Can't wait to try it out. :)
SirBrittanicvs says: Jan 20, 2010. 8:16 PM
I'd omit the duct tape, personally. Though it may work I'd prefer to reinforce the corners by doubling it up on itself and sew it together and whatnot.

Also, what kind of rope did you use?
sharlston in reply to SirBrittanicvsFeb 13, 2010. 9:33 AM
he used nylon rop by the loks of it

 this is cool :)
Ben.land101 says: Sep 18, 2009. 5:17 PM
after reading through the comments, i noticed you said that a thicker string is better. well i beg to differ. the thinner the string, the faster you can sling it, the faster you sling it well, i think you know what happens. p.s. i have never had any tangling problems.
ninja of darkness says: Mar 15, 2008. 8:26 PM
why such a long rope?
necropolian in reply to ninja of darknessApr 10, 2009. 11:11 AM
how farther a point is from the center of the spinning motion, how faster it moves, and how more momentum (power) it has. it's basic physics, dude!
heavy.metal.nguyen in reply to ninja of darknessApr 8, 2009. 9:44 PM
I think it's to add more power, but I found it much easier to start it spinning if it's about a foot of a foot and a half shorter than your shoulder height.

Made something like this a while ago, I was slinging goose poo into a lake for hours and then I fell in. Lol. Gonna make this soon
grut125 says: Dec 21, 2008. 2:54 PM
nice sling have you ever looked into putting your expertise to making air cannons. they are for sure the best thing that you can make for shooting things.
halberdear in reply to grut125Dec 29, 2008. 4:53 PM
well yeah, next to real guns of course lol.
-insertnamehere- (author) in reply to grut125Dec 25, 2008. 7:32 PM
actually, I have :) I have two currently assembled. One is freaking huge and shoots tennis balls (really far, I might add) the other I use as a shotgun for airsoft and paintball wars. it scares the crud out of people :P
grut125 in reply to -insertnamehere-Feb 21, 2009. 3:01 PM
i have three so far and each one has a changeable barrel.
15zhangfra says: Dec 20, 2008. 4:04 PM
nice although its not my type cuz im jinxed and all rope tangles when i try it so i had to shorten the dimensions
-insertnamehere- (author) in reply to 15zhangfraDec 25, 2008. 7:34 PM
yeah, I'm about 6'4", so the longer strings might not work for other people who are freakishly tall :P also, if you use really small strings, it's much more likely to get tangled.
15zhangfra in reply to -insertnamehere-Dec 26, 2008. 4:45 PM
o im 4 ft somthin, (no i dont have growth wat ever, its just that u have to be 13 but im 11)

Great Instructable. I will be slinging things off the big cliff at cross country camp.
-insertnamehere- (author) in reply to 53rp3ntOct 24, 2008. 2:39 PM
cross country pwns! just make sure you don't hit anybody. I took out a small tree a summer camp with a rock once with this thing :). one of my favorite things to do with a cliff is to find a rock that about four people can roll, and roll it off. then you can take out huge trees!

Monty Python is the best show in the world. Good choice of shirt. My friend Kurt and I used the killer rabbit for a school project. I think we aced it.
civet5285 says: May 20, 2008. 10:08 AM
Very nice. I will add I got better results from a vertical swing rather than horizontal (so, in other words, the sling starts hanging loose on my right side. I start it spinning forward so that it circles up from below and then behind me) and release the end as it comes up from behind. It seems to be more accurate, although I had to shorten my sling to accomodate my height and reach.
-insertnamehere- (author) in reply to civet5285May 21, 2008. 2:24 PM
yeah, that makes sense...My sling was just to long to do it vertically :( I should have made it shorter.

Really cool. I've been looking for something like this. +1.
Aburame Shino says: Oct 20, 2007. 8:04 AM
Very nice, my young Padawan. That is ironic. I am only 13. =P Lol. Anyway, I may be wrong, but I think that "simple overhand knot" in step 7 is called a "square knot" when made with two lengths of rope like you did. I believe it is used as a stopper knot? Anywho, very nice. Definitely a favorite.
smithy813 in reply to Aburame ShinoMar 19, 2008. 1:39 PM
you are wrong, he was right
Aburame Shino in reply to smithy813Mar 22, 2008. 1:24 PM
... O_O No, I think I'm right. That's a square not, but he IS right about it being simple. <code=sarcasm>Thanks for being specific about it, though.</sarcasm>
Nitornos in reply to Aburame ShinoMar 23, 2008. 2:54 PM
That's totally an overhand knot, except with two ropes. I was a Boy Scout, I'd know a square knot when I see one.
Aburame Shino in reply to NitornosMar 30, 2008. 2:04 PM
My bad. XD Thanks for clearing that up though.
Folin1 in reply to NitornosMar 24, 2008. 4:25 AM
Agreed. Isn't a square knot something to do w/ 2 overhand knots
kenx_maniac says: Aug 23, 2007. 1:01 PM
how do you get the stuff to shoot i get the idea but when do you let go?
shepard1 in reply to kenx_maniacMar 17, 2008. 6:37 PM
Physics man check rotational motion. You release at a right angle from where you want it to go. If you are right handed you let go at your 3 o'clock position. 9 if you are goffy. This is very important because it will determine you accuracy. think about it we missed a whole planet because we were less than 2 degrees off (Mars the first time).
