Step 1: 3D Print 3D Model of Arctic Setting

Use the 3D program Cura on your computer to upload the .STL file to the 3D Printer.

Step 2: 3D Print 3D Model of Sun

Use the 3D program Cura on your computer to upload the .STL file to the 3D Printer.

Step 3: 3D Print 3D Model of Fox Face

Use the 3D program Cura on your computer to upload the .STL file to the 3D Printer.

Step 4: 3D Print 3D Model of Polar Bear Face Dad

Use the 3D program Cura on your computer to upload the .STL file to the 3D Printer.

Step 5: 3D Print 3D Model of Polar Bear Face Son

Use the 3D program Cura on your computer to upload the .STL file to the 3D Printer.

Step 6: 3D Print 3D Model of Polar Bear Paw Print

Use the 3D program Cura on your computer to upload the .STL file to the 3D Printer.

Step 8: Print Out Regular Font Story of the Family Without Hope

Use regular white paper to print.

Step 9: Laser Cut Pieces of Cardboard for Structure and Title

Go to the laser cutter machine with cardboard so that it could laser cut these pieces. Use this file.

Step 10: Print Braille Version Story of the Family Without Hope

Use Swell paper to print.Braille will be placed on paper and later put through a heating machine made for swell paper.

Step 11: Print Braille Title/Author Name of the Family Without Hope

Use swell paper to print.Braille will be placed on paper and later put through a heating machine made for swell paper.

Step 12: Print Regular Font and Braille Font Title Page of the Family Without Hope

Use swell paper to print.Braille will be placed on paper and later put through a heating machine made for swell paper.

Step 13: Run All Swell Paper Braille Prints Through Heating Machine

This is to make the braille print pop out the material of the swell paper.The braille print will be brought up from being flat.

Step 14: Buy Materials for Tactile Book

You want to buy fur, leather and the base structure (which is a 16x20 wooden frame) and black paint. You can get these at Jo-Ann Fabrics and Crafts and Guiry's Color Source.

Step 15: Draw Waves on Swell Paper and Put Through Heating Machine Twice

You want to use the special marker for swell paper to draw waves for water. You put it through the heating machine so that it makes the marker drawing pop out.

Step 16: Color Yellow Space and Waves of Swell Paper With Blue Sharpie

This is to show that the waves of the water are blue. So you want to make it visually appealing.

Step 17: Put Two Layers of Mod Podge Hard Coat on Waves and Blue Drawing

You want to do this to harden the swell paper material to avoid getting the material scraped off.You also want to do this to the blue drawing so that it pops out the blue to create a bright blue water setting.

Step 18: Put Blue Painting Tape on Inside of Base Structure

You want to do this to avoid getting black paint on the side of the base structure or on your 3D models.If paint does get on the inside,use sand paper to get black paint off the inside outline wood.

Step 19: Paint Top and Outside of Base Structure With Black Chalk Paint

The base structure is made of wood.So you want to paint the outside and top outlining of this base structure.This give the structure a better look.

Step 20: Assemble Laser Cut Pieces

Hot glue tiny side pieces with the long pieces to make a rectangle.Hot glue tile and author name piece on top of rectangle base.

Step 21: Paint Top of Title Laser Cut Piece "The Family Without Hope" With Black Chalk Paint

Paint the whole top of laser cut title and author structure with black chalk paint.This looks better then having a plain brown cardboard look.

Step 22: Put Measured Piece of White Paper Under Black Painted Laser Cut Title Piece

Measure out a piece of white paper to put under the laser cut structure.Hot glue the paper onto the laser cut structure.You do this to pop out the laser cut title and author name.Make sure paint is dry before doing so.

Step 23: Hot Glue All 3D Printed Models,Swell Paper Waves and Textures on Base Structure

Hot Glue:

  • Place Polar Bear Face (Dad) inside of base structure in the upper left corner
  • Place Polar Bear claw next to Polar Bear Face (Dad) on the right side
  • Place Polar Bear Face(Son) next to Polar Bear Claw on the right side
  • Place Swell Paper Waves Below Polar Bear Face (Dad)
  • Place Arctic Setting next to Swell Paper Waves on the right side
  • Place Fox Face next to Arctic Setting on the right side
  • Place Fox Fur(fur),Polar Bear Fur(fur) and Sea Lion Blubber(leather) below Swell Paper Waves
  • Place Sun next to Place Fox Fur(fur),Polar Bear Fur(fur) and Sea Lion Blubber(leather)
  • Place Sea Lion next to the Sun

Step 24: Put Laser Cut Structure on Base Structure Without Hot Glue

Place laser cut structure on whole right side of base structure.This will take up the whole right side area.Make sure title name and author is viewed from a side view.The laser cut structure is removable so audio can be placed inside if audio is needed.

Step 25: Cut Out Braille Title of Story and Author Name

Make sure they are two separate lines of braille text.One strip for the title and one strip for the author name.

Step 26: Spray Adhesive Spray on Cut Out Braille Title/Author Name and Apply to Laser Cut Structure

Use a cardboard piece when spraying adhesive spray.After spraying strips of braille,place the title on bottom left corner of laser cut structure and place author name on bottom right of laser cut structure.

Step 27: Bind Together Braille Title/Regular Font Page With Polar Bear Image and Story All in Braille

Use a sticky plastic plastic binding object to clamp whole story in braille together.Put binding object on left side of page.

Step 28: Insert Regular Font Full Story in Braille Story Book

You want to have the regular font story inside of braille book to have for presentation reasons such as audience members reading the story.

Step 29: You Have Finished Your Tactile Book of the Family Without Hope
