As a maker you always need screwdrivers. They're handy but become boring after a while :). So I decided to make a tool handle which looks galactical cool and is also handy. The Laser screwdriver is the result.

As this is my first instructable i would be very happy if you leave a comment. (so i can improve it) :)

Step 1: Material

For this project you will need:
1. a cheap screwdriver
2. a piece of aluminium bar stock
3. a piece of steel bar stock
4. a piece of aluminium tubing
5. Black paint
(6. Some liquid rubber for the set screw // optional)

Step 2: Tools You Need

You will need:

1. Safety glasses
2. caliper
3. drill
4. tap and tap wrench
5. a hecksaw
6. a lathe
7. a brush
8. several lathe tools for machining the parts
9. a drill press
10. an angle grinder

Step 3: Measuring and Designing

Measure the handle of a screwdriver that fits well to your hand. Then measure the shank of the cheap screwdriver.
Now, draw a sketch with the correct measurements for your handle. You will need the sketch during the production of the parts.

Step 4: Machining of the Parts

Now you can machine the parts to your design specifications. Just make sure that the shank of the screwdriver fits into the hole you drill in the handle.

For the beam guard you can cut a piece of aluminium tubing at an angle of 45 degrees.

Machine the setscrew for locking the tool into position when you insert the shank into your handle.

Step 5: Drilling and Threading

Drill a hole where the set screw goes. Then use your tap wrench to make a thread into the drilled hole that fits to your set screw.

Step 6: Paint the Handle

Paint the handle in your desired colour and let it dry. ( Make sure your colour is intended for use on metal surfaces)
After the paint has dried you can sand off the excess paint.
