Introduction: The Laser Tunnel Glove!

Remember those cool weapons that pretty much every alien in every sci-fi movie has? That awesome laser weapon he got straped to his arm and shoot without even tuching?
well now you can have one too!

The Tunnel Glove has two modes, tunnel AND dot, and the best thing is that it's activated by clutching a fist
so you don't even need to tuch it, just like in the movies!

**NEW VIDEO ON STEP 7.

For the making of the Tunnel Glove You WILL need a Laser Pointer if you don't already have one, I'd recommend wicked lasers, they are the best out there.

*DONT EVER SHINE A LASER INTO A PERSON OR ANIMALS EYES.

Step 1: Materials

all right! most of these you can find around the house,
you'll need..

1. a video camera cassette box.
2. a thin plastic mirror(can be found in your local arts & craft store)
3. about 15cm of fishing line (the thin kind)
4. a box cutter (needs to be very sharp)
5. a piece of sand paper.
6. a soldering iron.
7. some solder.
8. double sided tape.(art & craft store)
9. superglue.
10. scissors.
11. 2 Zip Ties
12. 1 electric wire
13. a AAA battery house(removed from a tape recorder)
14. elasic band.(arts & craft store)
15. a continues on-off switch (also removed from the same tape recorder)
16. 1 Styrofoam board (arts & craft store)
17. 1 glove(can be any glove)
18. double sided fabric-hooks tape, seen on the secound picture, (arts & craft store)
19. 1 toothpick
20. 1 chopstick
21. small pliers
22. 1 AAA battery
23. 1 mini motor (this is very importent! it must be small, this one was removed from the same tape recoder as the above, CAN BE ALSO FOUND IN OLD WALKMANS.)

If you have a walkman that you dont need then
your probebly set, everything you need is in one of those.

ok, if you have all of these then your ready for step 2.

Step 2: Preparing the Case

In this step we will be making adjustments to the cassette box.

1. take your cassette box and hold it so the flap opens to the left.

2. assumeing you have the same motor as i do (if you don't make the proper a adjustments) mark and cut out a square 1cm over 2.2cm on an angle, (see the second picture)

3. cut the same sized square on the flap so the motor fits perfectly when you close the flap (see pictures 4-5)

4. cut a hole just a bit to the left from the middle for the laser beam to exit(see sixth picture)

5. make a hole the diameter of your laser pointer on the opposite side of the box just a bit to the left from the middle, make sure it closes(see seventh picture)

6. cut a square 0.6cm over 0.4cm on the right side of the box for the on-off switch,(see pictures 8-9) if your switch is bigger make the hole bigger if smaller then smaller.

7. last, make two small holes on the bottom of the case so the laser would pass right in between,(see tenth picture)

OK, your case is ready, move to step 3.

Step 3: Its Soldering Time!

alright, now that we have our case ready we can start the soldering!

Now dont be alarmed all you first timers, this was my first time soldering and it's quite easy, so lets get to work!

1. solder one of the wires to one of the sides of the battery case, if your wondering where i got that 1 battery case well i made it out of a 2 battery case the came from the tape recorder(I just cut the original battery case down the middle and superglued a piece of metal to the end..)

2. run the wire you didnt solder through the two holes you made in the bottom of the box and solder it to
the on-off switch.(see the second and third pictures)

3. take your extra wire, run it through the holes in the bottom and solder one end to the on-off switch and the other end the the battery case (see the second and third pictures)

4. superglue your battery case to the bottom of the cassette case (see the second and third pictures)

5. put the on-off switch in it's designated hole and superglue it in place.(see the second and third pictures)

pop in a battery to check that it's working,
if all is well then go on to step 4.

Step 4: Mirrors

Grab your mirror(s) and lets get to work.

1. remove the plastic protecting the mirror, once it's off
be careful not to tuch the mirrors surface, you'll leave your prints on it and it will mess up the beam.

2. cut out the mirror into a square 0.5 x 0.5 (see the second picture)

3. cut a square 0.5cm x 0.7cm out of the double-sided tape, stick it on the back of the mirror, you'll see that you have 0.2cm of tape sticking out of the side, take that extra and fold it to the middle, now stick the mirror on the motor.(see pictures 3-4)

*TEST IT*
pop in a battery to see that everything is working.
when you flick the switch the motor should make the little mirror spin, now take your laser and shine it on the spining mirror,(ALWAYS DIRECT THE LASER AWAY FROM YOUR BODY) you should now see your tunnel.

4. take your Styrofoam board and
cut a triangle 1cm x 1cm x 1.5cm with depth of 1cm (see the fifth picture)

5. cut two squares 1cm x 1cm of double-sided tape and stick them as seen on the fifth picture.

6. cut one square 1cm x 1cm from the mirror and stick it on the triangle as seen on the fifth picture.

7. stick the triangle at the correct angle as seen on the sixth picture.

when your finished, go on to step 5.

Step 5: Making the Styrofoam Base and the Clutching Mechanism

In this step we will be making the styrofoam base and the clutching mechanism
so go get your sharpest box cutter,
got it? right! lets get to work.

1. take your styrofoam board and cut a rectangle 15cm x 5cm and 1.5cm thick.

2. make a cut in the rectangle from one side 8.5cm down to the middle and about 2.5cm to the left,(see the first picture)

3. make slits to fit the bottom of the motor and the excess wires so the case can sit tightly on the styrofoam.(see the first picture)

4. stick some double-sided tape on the styrofoam and place the case on it. (see the second picture)

5. secure the laser in place to prevent it from sliding around with two pieces of styrofoam. (see the third picture)

6. place a zip-tie on the laser and the botton, dont close it to tight, just enough so it wont move around.(see the forth picture)

7. tie a fishing line to the zip-tie and leave youeself about 21cm of fishing line to work with.(see the fifth picture)

8. run a chopstick through the styrofoam just below the zip-tie, cut the extra.(*the fifth picture shows a toothpick but it snaped under the pressure so i switched to a chopstick and it works fine)

9. take a toothpick and stick it in the styropoam near the end, cut the extra.(see the sixth picture)

10. thread the fishing line below the chopstick and above the toothpick. (see the sixth picture)

11. make a ring the size of the gloves finger out of a zip-tie.

12. tie the end of the fishing line to the ring. (see the sixth and seventh pictures)

almost done!, go on to step 6.

Step 6: Fixing the Whole Thing in Place

We are almost done!, only thing left to do is fix it to the glove.
(dont worry, you will not be destroying your glove)

lets get to work.

1. cut two pieces of elastic band, about 16cm and use some superglue to make a loops.(see pictures 1-3)

2. take some double sided fabric-hooks tape and stick some on the bottom of the styrofoam. (see the forth picture)

3. if you used the hooks side to stick to the styrofoam then stick the fabric side on the glove (if you used the fabric on the styrofoam then do the opposite), where it would fit the styrofoam side. (see the fifth picture)

4. now stick the entire unit on the glove, thread the ring onto the gloves finger and secure the whole thing with the the elastic band. (see the sixth picture)

** the fishing line must be tight even when not clutching a fist, if it isn't try moving the double sided fabric-hooks tape back a little.

Well that's it! move to the final step.

Step 7: Fun Time!

That's it!, your done! load in your laser and have fun!
time to drive the cat insane!
*Remember to be careful and NEVER shine a laser into people/animals eyes,
doing so is at your own risk.

p.s
For those of you that didn't figure this out on your own,
when the red switch is on you are in tunnel mode and when it's off your in dot mode.
