Templed by Sun and Rain and left as useless , it was waiting for someone who could back it to live Blast Wood and make some Big Noise.
Aint a cool Intro…?
If you google "Machete" you´ll find a pic of an Old Badass Texican…that’s not the one that I´m going to talk about…I´m talking about that Tool that many of us have used since medieval times.
While researching for this project I realized that Media show the Machete as an Instrument of Terror used by violent people, but don’t emphasize in the uses as Tool that many people gave it.
So as a tribute to this Noble Tool; I´ll show you how I made my own Machete for my wood working projects.

He dicho…

Step 1: Lets Rock...A Darle Pues...

Stuff.

1 meter x 10 cms x 3mm Rusted Steel Sheet. Tempered by the weather Conditions.
3 mts paracord.
Piece of leather.
Leather needle if you dont have one use a clip.
Rounded File. Lima Redonda.
Drill.Taladro
Angle Grinder. Pulidora.
Buck Knife.Mikaela.. Navaja Patecabra.
Forge. Optional. Forja o Fragua. Opcional
C Clamp. Prensa en C.
Vise. Prensa.

Step 2: The Blade. La Hoja.

I found this rusted steel sheet near the railroad tracks. It was already tempered. I just drew the required shape on it and cut it with the angle grinder. Make sure to use goggles and leather gloves for protection. Make sure you cut slowly and easy...don´t get rushed.
Before you start to grind be sure that you are dressed to the occasion. Don't wear loose clothes that could get trapped in your own grinder as that will scare the hell out of you.
Tightly secure the sheet with a C clamp. Start at one side and partially grind in. Subsequently grind in at the other side; the remaining pieces will fall off. After you make the shape just make a line hole in the handle to wrap the Paracord, I made it like this because it is easier."

Step 3: Sharpening.

When the Blade is cutted begin to sharp the edge of the Machete.
Finnally sahrp all the blade with riverstones of diferent Grains.Finnally and as an option Temper the Machete in the Forge or with a Propane Torch.
When is red cherry submerge it in Cold Rain Water.

Step 4: Paracord Time.

I decided make the handle in paracord cause is easier and give rough touch.I´m not a paracord expert so i cant tell you how I wave ..just begin to weave and I think that become a Nice handle.

Step 5: The Sheat.La Funda.

I found some piece of leather trace the shape of the machete on it and became to cut , it was the first machete task.
When the shape was ready pinch a holes with a tiny file, and drill a small holes to weave with a leather cord from the remaing pieces of leather. No needle...No problemo...Just madke one with a clip. Then made the Mods.

Step 6: Right On....Chop Time....!!!!

CAMPING TIME....YEEEEEEEHHHHAAAA.....!!!!!
Once it was finished I couldnt wait to test in the field.

Usos.
Cortar madera…Dohhh.
Cortar Carne.
Cortar vegetales.
Tallar artesanías.
Destapar cerveza.
Abrir Monte..

Step 7: Thank U All.

Ok...Now that i´finished I have to give thanks to all Knife Makers to submit all that valious info...I know its not the best leatherwork neither bladesmithing work but it was just the basics ,if somene get offended I apologize.
Hope you like it and I dont hurt feelings.
Rated and Vote.

Califiquen y voten.
Put more weight towards the point so the force of the blow is improved, right now more of the weight is near the handle, which will make it easier to swing but the energy in the strike will be more towards the back of the blade.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Machette_kos.pg.jpg

Good job!
But you are right about the shape , size.and weight..it shouldnt be called <strike>machete</strike> but a Biiiiiiiig Knife....thnks for the comment.
the tool looks kinda like a sog jungle knife the "warrior" model
try the shape of a Roman gladius it is front heavy and has a proper point
I really liked the Shape cause i need a pointed tip.Just matter of Taste and believe me this badass strikes very strong, I think that the technique of the strikes is that really matters.
But of course! If your technique is excellent, you will be so much better with whatever you use.

I have a friend who has a set of Ping golf clubs, he says he can't blame his poor game on anything but himself. I remember reading about a golf pro who could play a game (for a wager, of course) with a pool cue, a shovel and a rake... and win!
I remember reading about a Queen that could played croquet with flamingos instead of mallets....If somenoe wins her..."Off with his head...XD
Totally a Genius...

Good Point...and I´m agreed...thnks for ur comment
that's cool i have to make one now

Thnks Compa...!!!
If I won the Dead Computer Contest with a Cyborg and my codename became "Cyborg", your codename will be "Machete"??? :-P
Nice to meet you, Mr. Sanchez, but friends can call me: <strike>"MACHETE "
</strike>
But ONLY if i win...AND wIN ...AND....WIN...!!!!
A flat leaf spring is good stock to make a machette blade.
Depends on the thickness, I think. Machetes should be pretty thin, ¿no?
what upside down question mark!!!!!!!!!?????!?!?!?!?!??!?!??!???!?~?!??!?
But you are right about the shape , size.and weight..it shouldnt be called <strike>machete</strike> but a Biiiiiiiig Knife....thnks for the comment.
I know this is just an accessory to the knife, but your sheath really got me thinking. I already have a store-bought machete. Around here (I live in the campo), people carry their machetes in their hands for the most, or, if they're on horseback (or using a burro), they slide it between a strap and the saddle or whatever.

I want to make a sheath for my machete that would go over my shoulder. After seeing your sheath, which is quite adequate for its purpose, I'm inspired.

PS: I cheated and used google translate, but had to go over it several times because it makes some weird translations. Hopefully, my adjusted version makes sense.

Oh, and a slang idioma for a Biiiiiig Knife would be a Biiiiiiiiiig F__king Knife. But don't say this around your grandma or a priest. It's muy vulgar. Si, mi boca es sucio y feo, pero no soy de D.F. Puedes creerlo? :D
Ure so funny amigo Marcos...youre getting the point..because his medium size you could carry on like a Ninja Sword with a stripe around your chest...and in your back. I live near the campo Too...Just find a nice piece of leather and the sewing thread could be from the same piece of leather just cut stripes.
Great 'ible!

You might want to look for springs that a made up of many leafs or what is called a soft ride suspension because the material tends to be a little thinner thus not as heavy as well as less time and fuel to heat. Less grinding time as well.
Agreed...this is just the beggining...wait for more Forge Ibles.
Thank you for writing in two languages!
Ure wellcome...well II´m trying to improve my few english skills.

As you can see, my English is far better than my Spanish.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J1htdAy4c6U

Your english is quite good. i love the instructable and while your grammer is not perfect, it is easy to tell exactly what you mean
Thnks djzadjza..did I spell Right...?
Yeah well you were close if not right on with most things but unfortunetly you spelled my wrong. You spelled it mi and it is accually spelled my. Most of the errors I wouldn't have noticed if I hadnt been paying attention.
Ohhhh...dont you get it...?...first title its in Spanish (My native Language) and the last one is In English
that would make sense... i feel really stupid right now. By the way, that was really cool that you put it in spanish.
