The New York Ghost

Introduction: The New York Ghost

By request, here's another Fantastic Beasts DIY! This time we'll be making The New York Ghost. The N, Y, and G in the logo are a shiny silver foil and I think it turned out looking great! Also, this is one full size newspaper sheet (once it's all glued together). That's four full pages. The text of the articles is just placeholder Latin text - which is what the official movie prop used, unfortunately... But the headlines and all of the ads are in readable English!

I couldn't find any inside pages so I created my own based on all the cover pages I could find.

SUPPLIES

You'll also need to download my free templates available below. I am not referring to the instructables PDF (which requires a paid subscription). You want to download the .zip file.

YOU MAY *NOT* USE THESE TEMPLATES FOR PROFIT

Step 1: Video Tutorial

Watch the video tutorial or follow the written instructions.

Step 2: Printing and Cutting

Print out all the templates on your choice of paper size. I recommend the 11x17 templates because it involves less cutting and gluing.

Side Note: You will need to print the templates double-sided (duplex).

Now use a ruler and X-Acto knife or paper cutter to trim off all the white space around the newspaper templates. You could also use scissors for this, but using a ruler and X-Acto knife or a paper cutter will give you much more professional results.

Print the sheet of backwards N Y G letters single-sided on sticker paper and set it aside for later.

Step 3: Gluing and Folding

Your templates will have some overlapping areas. Line them up and glue them together with a glue stick. Now you should have two large double-sided newspaper pages. Notice that the side margin is smaller on one side and wider on the opposite side. Put your two pages in order and glue them together at the large margin in the center. You will be left with one very large newspaper page consisting of 4 printed pages.

Fold this large page in half vertically so the cover page is on front and it opens into the inside pages like a book. Now fold this in half horizontally.

Step 4: Silver Foil Letters

Cut off one row of the backwards N Y G letters from the sticker paper. You can set the rest aside, they're extras.

Cut off a length of silver foil tape long enough to stick the N Y G letters onto.

IMPORTANT - Stick the backwards letters onto the BACK side of the foil tape - NOT the shiny foil side. In the photos, I printed non-reversed N Y G letters and stuck them on the front. It was much more difficult that way because I had to cut the letters out and then peel the sticker paper off the foil side. I didn't realize how hard this would be until after and I decided sticking backwards letters on the peel-off side of the tape would be so much easier.

So, now that your letters are stuck to the peel-off side of the silver tape, use a pair of scissors to cut them out. Try to get them as perfect as you can - but don't worry if you don't cut off every little sliver of white around the letters.

Once this is done, all you need to do is stick the letters over the N Y G in the logo on the cover of your newspaper.

Step 5: You're Finished!

That's it! You're all done!
