Introduction: The Punkin (punk Rock Pumpkin)

Every year I think of a new way to design a jack o'lantern for Halloween and I enjoy the entire process from beginning to end. I would like to show my artistic pumpkin carving and maybe give some people ideas of what to do for this Halloween.

I just hollowed out the pumpkin, drew the face on, and cut out the face. I 3D printed the props I used on the outside using Inventor. Then when it got dark I placed a candle inside and lit it up. Now the pumpkin character can sit out on the porch at night and be seen by everyone who passes by.

Step 1: Gather Materials

Acquire a pumpkin, something to draw the face on, a cutting tool, a candle, and anything you want to use for decoration.

Step 2: Decide a Design

Decide what you want your pumpkin to look like. (I chose to make a punk rock head.) It’s a good idea to draw out the face on a sheet of paper first so you can see what it’ll look like and have a guide to go by. Cut it out and use it as a stencil if you’d like

Step 3: Prepare the Pumpkin

Cut a circle around the stem of the pumpkin all the way through the exterior so there is a removable top. Then, either with your hands or a scooping tool, remove all of the seeds and innards of the pumpkin.

Step 4: Trace the Face

Pick the best side of the pumpkin to put the face on. Then use a sharpie to draw the face where you want to cut it out. If you made a stencil trace it on the pumpkin.

Step 5: Carve the Pumpkin

Use a cutting tool, preferably a knife, to cut in the same lines that you drew. (cut out the face)

Step 6: Get Creative

Use Autodesk Inventor Pro to model any props that you would like to use on the pumpkin and print them on a 3D printer. You could find props lying around to use, be creative and use what you have. I even gave mine tattoos.

Step 7: Light It Up

Remove the top and place a lit candle inside the pumpkin. Sit it out and watch it glow through the night.
