The REAL ginger beer recipe!

Step 9Final results

I made the original brew on Thursday 30th.

Today I bottled up the 2nd bottle and took the gravity. It was 1.034 which makes it 4.2%

Quite alcoholic.

Tomorrow I will add a few 'bottling' pics. All I've done now is add a bit of sugar (About a teaspoon) to a plastic bottle and squeezed out the air. Tomorrow I'll see if the bottle is hard, and if it is put it in the fridge.

Great article. And yes, you have that amusing tone that I have missed since moving back to the states. Two questions: Can I use a plant to make a fizzy but non-alcoholic (or only slightly alcoholic) soda? And, er, if so, could I have or buy some of your plant? (If you think it would survive the voyage to the States)

Well I myself am still plant-less. Could I send you a couple bucks to mail me some of your plant? This tim_n fellow seems a bit swamped or burned out.

I made ginger beer when I was a kid and all the glass bottles exploded. I'd love to have another try if you still have some GBP to spare. My e-mail address is lynne@firstaction.co.uk.

If you still have some of the plant, or know of a source in the pacific northwest of the US I would appreciate it.  I can be reached at darby at cgca dot us.

Loved the recipe, I always prefer to go old school if I can.

Top marks for an excellent recipe and detailed brewing instructions. And yes, you are indeed very funny and probably very handsome. Can you send me some real Ginger beer plant? Seriously, I brew the yeast variety for my son and for my own Moscow Mule. However I believe the real thing is better. It is worth trying a couple of dried red chillies chopped up and left in two litres for 48 hours. It warms the heart! My email is davidward dot new at virgin dot net if you are able to send some. I am assuming you sense of humour means that you live in the UK as opposed to the states or France or somewhere.

It was received, still cold, the next morning. I have twogallons on the go in demi johns and will be bottled as soon as I collect enough bottles. Then the taste test! I will let you know and thanks again.

I only filtered it today so it had a reasonable time. Even so It could probably have done with longer. By the time I have drunk that lot the plant should have grown a bit.

The plant is still alive and it tastes good. I am keeping the plant in a bottle with plenty of water and feeding it a teaspoon of sugar every two or three days. Is that the best way of growing it?

I am curious is the Ginger beer plant still good after this or do you need to make a new plant every time
