The Rarest and Best Airplane

I am going to show you how to make a fairly rare paper airplane. By rare, I mean searching Instructables and Google Video, I could not find a similar model. I just learned how to make this airplane a week before the contest, so It works out great.

I like this plane, because it doesn't involve cutting, and uses standard copier paper. This plane does involve a little measuring, but a little guessing shouldn't affect flying too much.

Oh yeah, this is my first Instructable, so please, I don't even care if your rude about it, tell me what I can do to improve.

Step 1: Gather Materials

-8.5x11 inches paper
-Ruler (optional)
-Scissors (optional)

As I said before, You will need a standard 8.5x11 sheet of printer paper. You could use lighter paper if you felt the urge (like tracing paper, or rice paper), or you could print a simple pattern or texture on your paper.

A ruler helps to get the measurements exact, which in turn makes better flight.

You may wish to make elevator flaps on the back of the wings with the scissors. I personally do not do this, because I believe it flies better without them.

Step 2: Make Initial Folds

The first few fold are like how you would make most other paper airplanes.

1. Do a "Hot-Dog" fold, in half vertically. If you need further assistance, I have drawn a line on the fold. :P
2. Fold the two corners down to the center fold.
3. Fold THOSE corners down once more, again, to the center line.

Both 2 and 3 are mirror folds on the opposite side.

Step 3: Continue Folding

Thia ia where it gets a teensy bit more involved. You might want to get out your ruler for this, but if your at a place where one is not easily available, just guess. But to maximize flight quality, measure exact.

1. Fold down the nose (point) 1 1/4 of an inch downward (about two fingers width). One thing to note, In the picture, I am doing it wrong. Fold the point down on the side that has the flaps. NOT the bare side, as I am doing. So basically, just do these steps on the opposite sides, but still do the exact folds as I am doing.

2. Crease that flap at 4 1/2 inches. See the third picture for the result of this fold.

3. Fold that fold up so there is 1 inch of space between the edge. (see picture 4)

Step 4: Make Final Folds - Wings and Stabalizers

1. Fold plane in half, with the nose on the bottom of the wings.

2. Measure 1 1/4 inches from the btoom back corner of the plane. Mark this spot, as this is where the wing will need to fold to. Fold the other side by just using the first wing you folded as a reference. (Pictures 2 and 3)

3. Fold about half an inch of stabilizer flap running down the length of the wing.

4. make sure the pocket is on the bottom of the craft.

5. Fold the ings in a Y and Scotch Tape it on the very back, because the back of the wings are too unstable without the extra support.

Done.

Its not the best plane but its OK.

This plane is sweet! I had to make the stabilizers bend down, but it worked well. After maybe an hour of play in the road, it only got moderately damaged. Most of the time it did a sliding landing, but sometimes just crashed.

Thanks for another design, I think i'll stick to the seven fold one :). I don't see how people aren't clever enough to follow written instructions, I prefer them to the video, so that's good too.

i knew this plane all along (no offence) but it isnt quite rare if you pick an airplane book of the shelf you will find it very easy

Looks pretty cool. Kind of hard to go, a little problems making it PERFECT, but it works. Nice job, might put some awesome designs on it, and true, it is very rare, I don't think I've seen it before. Nice job once again!

the plane flies good but not like i expected it to. Its a good plane but i think you need to ajust it a little to win the contest.

Yes, you need to do a lot tweaking after the first flight, but once you get everything straight, it will go far and stable. The tape on the back is vital, by the way.
