The Raven T-shirt

The T-shirt contest has inspired me to make this t-shirt for my grandson who loves this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p3bkmD-70e4 .  He thought the picture of the raven was awesome.  I could not buy a t-shirt like the logo of this group so I made a practice one.  I am happy with the results and will be trying different methods until I find the perfect design and application.  I did not know how to go about making it and was concerned about all the details of the raven.  I have more to add to the shirt I will be sending him for Christmas but was so impressed with this one I thought I would share it here on Instructables.  

Step 1: Materials list

1 T-shirt
1 Pattern
1 Fabric slightly larger than pattern 
Iron on inner facing  
1 Matching thread
1 Small button
Pins
Sewing needle
Sewing machine with zigzag stitch
Scissors

Step 2: Pattern

Copy pattern:

• Pattern I copied here:  http://sahaty.deviantart.com/art/Apparat-arcadia-shirt-172030338 .
• Trace the pattern from your screen and cut it out.
• I went to the library and enlarged the image 2X its size.

Please note:  Don't cut the black fabric yet.  

Step 3: Iron On Inner Facing

Iron the interfacing:

• Iron the interfacing to the black fabric on the wrong side.  
• I laid another piece of fabric over the top so the iron would not stick.

Step 4: Pinning The Pattern

Pinning the pattern:

• Pin the raven pattern to the black fabric and cut it out. 

Step 5: Sewing The Raven

Layout:

• Lay the raven over the t-shirt where you want it.
• Pin it to the shirt.
• Carefully stitch all the way around the shirt using a small zigzag stitch.  
• Remove from the sewing machine and trim all loose threads.

Step 6: Button

Button:

• Place the button where you think it should go.
• Sew it to the raven.

Step 7: Sunshiine's Final Thoughts

I enjoyed making this and I am looking forward to making another one with a window and a string!

Wonderful adaptation, and a great looking shirt! (I love the ragged edges, looks fantastic for the style)

Though, pardon me for mentioning, as the song is quite nice, I think you might like to know that that video actually originally goes to a different song by another group http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CD6VgRUE1y0&list=LL4I-yoa9_MLfIu7q8mBTk9A&index=22&feature=plpp_video and was created by a visual artist named Emmanuel Ho if you're interested in more of his work (and a high quality video of that lovely music video)! Again pardon the correction, but I do love the shirt and style!

The rough, frayed edges really add to the style of the raven shown in the video. I want a shirt like this!

It was easy and guess what! I have seen some of your work! You can sew! I liked the frayed edges also because it reminded me of feathers. I can't wait to make one with the window and the string. I will put the one with the string on the back and make one escaping on the front! Pretty cool if I can swing it! I will be sharing that one also! Thanks for commenting!
