The (New) Sawtooth Paracord Bracelet Weave

*Update*  I know you guys really want a video but I have been busy so I will let anybody make a video for this weave.  But make sure you reference me as the knot... designer(?) because I will hopefully make a new instructable and this time I will make the strings different colors thus causing less confusion if they for some reason didn't get the video. And also please subscribe if you like my instructables because I will make the new instructable private to my subscribers for a few weeks, then I will release it to everyone.  Just subscribe.  Its easy.

If you are willing to make the video, please message me or comment below so I know who is making it.  Then once it is done and submitted Youtube (I guess other video sites would be fine but more people use youtube) please send me a link to the new video so I can check if the weave is wrong or your video is just ridiculously awesome.

When I saw the snake weave, it was cool, but I did not like how it was round. Before I made a bracelet using the snake weave, I made one of the over under bracelets. I liked how flat the over under one was but I did not like how it only had one color. I also saw a version of the over under bracelet that used two colors. But I did not like the pattern. I thought to myself, there must be a different way to make that. I then thought of this, but I did not know that it would have a snake weave kind of look. But when I made more and more of the pattern, it started looking like two saw blades.

If you look closely the weave looks like this:

_/_
_/_
_/_
The two cords come together at an angle, and that gives it the sawblade look.
(Sorry for the fuzzy pictures, I don't have a good camera!)

Please rate and vote for the contest(s)!
I might even win a camera! Then I will have better pictures for my instructables!

Step 1: Materials

Well when I figured out how much cord I was going to use, I was surprised.  Compared to the snake weave, it uses twice as less cord.  It is pretty awesome!

Materials:
- 2 different lengths of cord measuring from end of hand to nose (plus a little bit if you have huge wrists) those need to be different colors.
- 1 length of cord that is that is twice as long as the circumference of your wrist plus a enough to tie a knot.
- a lighter

Optional:
-string to tie to a chair leg, post, tree, (just to keep the bracelet tight)

Awesome! I've got bored of cobra weaves (you do wham you've made 100's of variations) and this is a nice change. Have never seen it before but it's really cool!

I really love these and think they are cool!! I am going to have my Scout's make these and sell them as a fundraiser! And we will for sure give you credit because you have earned it! But I do not see a subscribe button or vote or rate... and just to let you know any decent person SHOULD give you credit, cause where credit is earned it is due!! But you can't force them unless you have a copyright on the item. But thanks so much for the great idea, and GREAT JOB!!! You do awesome!

I am going to be making a video. I made this instructable REALLY confusing. I am better at showing it visually so I hope the video will work. Thanks!

Where do you buy your paracord from?
building king (author) in reply to Schmidty850Jun 18, 2011. 5:29 PM
Army surplus stores, or online. Just google paracord. But make sure it ships close to where you live because the shipping might cost more than the paracord.
IanThigs in reply to building kingSep 28, 2012. 5:57 PM
I get mine on Amazon. Seller: Our School Spirit has a lot of dope colors and you can get 100 ft. for around $10. Check out rainbow if you look. It looks better in person but it's an awesome colored paracord
Bleach206 says: Aug 13, 2012. 10:05 PM
Can someone who has made this please make a video! this is the best paracord bracelet I have ever seen and would love to make one but these instructions are very hard to follow and I'm totally confused. No offense to building king but he has said he was going to make a video and has not done so. so again anyone who has made this and can make a video please do.
allen401 says: Aug 10, 2012. 8:28 AM
i love it, i thought your directions were very straight , managed to get it done in less than 30 min, and was only the second paracord bracelet i have ever made.
Great job!
allen401 in reply to allen401Aug 10, 2012. 8:30 AM
i also used a big clip to hold the loose ends while i started the braid, it helped me greatly
MAPow says: Aug 1, 2012. 6:36 PM
Love the look of this, but it is impossible to follow. When do I pull the ends through? You go from step three to a half finished bracelet. Might be helpful if the center cord was a different color.
I definitely think this is too confusing and would like to see a video.
PsychoSuzzie says: Jul 12, 2012. 4:48 PM
If you will number the strands it will help explain the weave. Basically in the middle you are making an X though one strand goes under on one side and then on the other side it goes over then you make the X and do the opposite if say the yellow went under then after the X is formed you would fold it back over the strand. I made my 1st one with a side release buckle and started the same way you do a survival bracelet. I hope this helps. I think I have seen some videos on Youtube over this bracelet that helped me to understand it. I hope this helps

It look similar to the snake knot that TIAT makes and he has a video showing how.
Just follow the link.

Not to be rude, but please read the description. I said that I saw the snake knot/weave but I didn't like how it was round so I made this one.
schad23 says: Mar 3, 2012. 11:12 PM
when are you making the video?
torstenp16 says: Feb 2, 2012. 4:37 PM
Hey, this is cool! I have a friend who's into paracord bracelets, although he's only used the cobra weave. I'm going to show this to him, think it'd be cool to have one of these on my wrist, especially in Pirate colors. Orange and black, baby.

About a video, I have a camera and a youtube account, and I'm sure my friend would be willing to do a video. Do you still want someone to do it? 'Cause I'd be more than willing.
building king (author) in reply to torstenp16Feb 9, 2012. 6:17 PM
Thank you so much for your comment! I actually got a new camera and I will most likely be doing the video. If I am not able to make the video, I will have you make it. Thanks!

I would be thrilled if you would do a video! I love the way you took a weave and modified it to lie flat the way you wanted it to. I would like it if you could take some other standard weaves and do the same thing.

Nice bracelet!
torstenp16 in reply to torstenp16Feb 2, 2012. 8:16 PM
And my friend kind of makes money selling his homemade survival bracelets, so if we made this for you, could he sell them?
building king (author) in reply to torstenp16Feb 9, 2012. 6:19 PM
Yeah, you can sell them. Thanks for asking!

I absolutely am in love with this weave. Unfortunately, having only done this for a short time, I am having some trouble following this. Can you clarify any of your steps?
1967Eleanor says: Jan 14, 2012. 7:48 PM
I'm pretty sure this is called the snake knot... besides that good job.
building king (author) in reply to 1967EleanorJan 14, 2012. 8:50 PM
It looks like the snake knot, but it is flat. I made it to look like the snake knot because the design is pretty cool, but it is round. I wanted it to be flat so I could wear it comfortably. Thanks for your comment!

Dread_Neck says: Dec 29, 2011. 1:16 PM
so youll need four pices of cord for this step? the two short ones are tied to gether and the longer ones are for the weave?
building king (author) in reply to Dread_NeckJan 5, 2012. 5:56 PM
Yep, sorry I was a bit confusing, I am going to make a video when I have time.

also the instruction about tying the braided string off is very vague, could you elaborate?

I glad that this instructable is out there. I wanted to make a lanyard out of 550 cord, but most of the other instructables were monotone. I figured that if this instructible turned out ok, I could use it for a lanyard only longer. The next step is to make one with a side-release buckle and/or a breakaway buckle. At first I was a little confused on how to start. But after some T&E I figured it out. Confusion could be helped by some better pictures or more of them for each step. Parts of the bracelet seemed to be cut off at the top. Fuzziness wasn't the problem, for me. I chose to do mine with the 3 colors of my favorite football (American) team Baltimore Ravens. I used white for the inner/short pieces. This made the fastener white. I then used purple and black. While showing some friends/fellow students I got 1 request for one. So, I must have done a good job.

Dose anybody know of a good source for breakaway buckles?
rhutchinson1 in reply to JohannDBNov 8, 2011. 5:44 PM
armynavy.us has 3/4" and 5/8" buckles. they also have about 50 colors of paracord.

Any idea how to do this with a slide release buckle?
HVahead says: Oct 8, 2011. 9:02 AM
so this is a kind of modified french braid...?
building king (author) in reply to HVaheadOct 8, 2011. 9:24 AM
Um, kind of. You are actually only "braiding" two cords. The other two, the short black cords, are only there to keep the weave together. If you look at it even closer you will tell it is just two coils interlocked with cords in the middle of the coils. The braid is just wrapping two cords around two other cords. I haped that answered your question.

msjann says: Sep 17, 2011. 10:25 PM
It is a cool weave but I can't figure out the twists for the life of me. You should re-do the explanations to where it's cord one, two, three and four - maybe show more of the start of the weave, or more pictures of the twists if you can't do a video. Very frustrated that I can't figure this out. Prolly will end up doing a different weave.
building king (author) in reply to msjannSep 18, 2011. 7:01 AM
I am going to make a video soon. The weave is so easy, it is just so hard to explain. Everybody is requesting a video, and I am wondering if anybody knows how to make it. I just made it so confusing. But I got chosen to be in the paracord ebook! I guess some people know how to make it.
Thanks!

It's a great looking weave - just really want to be able to get it to work. I'll keep at it.

You should make an Instructable on how to make a Sawtooth Bracelet with a buckle. Also, a video would be nice. (I didn't mess up or spell anything wrong. Even remembered the ' on didn't.)
building king (author) in reply to ~•SMART•~Aug 31, 2011. 8:26 PM
I really want to make a video, I just have to figure out how I am going to post it. I might post it on youtube but I don't have an account. I will try to figure it out.

Do you think that I should try to post a new instructable every week? It would be a lot of work and I will need a LOT of ideas. Great ideas take a while to think of, so I will need ideas from other people. I might give out patches to people whose ideas I use :)
thanks

Ask any Grandma that you know they frequently have vidoecams or Grammycams as they are called in our house maybe they could video you SLOWLY making the bracelet for us SLOW learners. Because I am committed to learning how to do this. Then it would be easy to post on you tube from the disc in the cam corder. If someone asked me to do that I would be more than happy to. Thank You Again Very Much Committed to Learn

Wait, wy not just use a digital camera, "grannycams" take forever to convert to digital video. I am planning on making a video, and it will probably be in a different instructable. Thanks for the advice! I appreciate input.

I don't have a YouTube account either. Make it almost impossible to post videos without one. I'll tell my brother and my friend to help think of ideas so you can post an instuctable every week. But only the ones that we can't do, because I we can, we are going to post it! :)

I LOVE this bracelet and would love to make it but I have tried everyday for a month to do it and still can't get it. Could you possibly show more pictures please and maybe a different color for the first tie I'm getting confused between the first tie and the weave cords. It is a little hard and would be easier if I could see more pics. Thank You So Very Much.

Wait, what part are you talking about? The weave? Measuring your wrist?
Schmidty850 in reply to building kingJun 15, 2011. 12:11 PM
measuring for the length of cord "Measure from your hand to your nose and cut."
triumphman in reply to Schmidty850Jun 16, 2011. 3:40 PM
from your hand how -where to your tip of nose, nostril bridge ? Not clear again! Please clarify!
Schmidty850 in reply to triumphmanJun 16, 2011. 4:17 PM
Ok so the the ultimate question is this,
When cutting the two different colors of paracord for the weave, how are we holding our hand (relaxed, raised, etc.) and where on our nose are we measuring(tip, middle, etc.)?
building king (author) in reply to Schmidty850Jun 16, 2011. 4:27 PM
Sorry! I am in the process right now of submitting a picture showing that. Check back, I might submit the picture soon.

Could you add a snap type plastic closure thingy to this, like the ones on dog and cat collars ? How to begin ? Could you do one with the clasp? Love your colors , can't wait to make one! Thanks
building king (author) in reply to triumphmanJun 16, 2011. 4:28 PM
I guess you can make it with a clasp, I haven't tried it yet.
Schmidty850 says: Jun 14, 2011. 7:07 PM
Also love the end result, although it would be very nice for a little bit more detail and some more pictures, by the way definitely voting for you.
building king (author) in reply to Schmidty850Jun 14, 2011. 9:33 PM
Thanks! Well, I did not think this through very well. I also did not do very much close ups. I didn't because the close ups on my camera look horrible. Was this too confusing? I can see the knots in my head (I am a very visual person) so I memorize bracelet weaves after just looking at them once. Because of that I can not tell if the weave is too hard. Please rate!
