The "Super bullet"- Possibly the fastest paper airplane ever? by DJ Radio
My friends made this airplane in science class one day, and when they threw it, I was amazed at the speed- It was actually quite a bit faster than a shot from the NAR Knex gun (although it won't get the serious range that the NAR gets, but it goes decently far).  I have looked all over the internet, using search engines on Google, Youtube, and Instructables, and haven't found any tutorials for this type of airplane. (I used the search line "Fastest paper airplane")

This airplane is asymmetrical, has a thick and heavy tip, and a slimline design.

WARNING- this airplane really DOES fly fast, unless you don't put power into your throw.  If thrown around people in a crowded room, make sure everyone wears safety goggles.

This instructable is an entry in Paper Airplane Contest 5 http://www.instructables.com/community/Paper-Airplane-Contest-5/

Video coming soon, possibly 5/30 at the earliest.

Step 1: Starting off...

To start off, you need a sheet of normal printer paper (Picture 1 ).  Fold one corner of it downward (picture 2 ), so the corner touches the opposite edge.  Now fold the edge the corner is touching downwards (Picture 3 ).

This next part is tricky to explain in words, but if you follow the pictures (I tried my best to get a High-res picture), it should be fairly simple.  Fold the resulting edge on the top right corner on the paper down diagonally, making sure to follow the line created by the previous fold (Picture 4 ).  Now fold it in a similar way (Picture 5 ).  Keep going until the very tip is wrapped around itself (Pictures 6-8 ).

That should do for now.  Proceed to step 2.  Man, I probably should have edited in some arrows using Paint but oh well.

Is it supposed to spiral as it flies???

Sorry to burst your bubble kid, but, I've seen faster. Don't get me wrong, it's an awesome plane! However, as for it possibly being "the fastest paper airplane ever"? That's not happening. Just watch the video on this link, and, at 0:39, you'll see what I mean. In the video, it pretty much looks like the guy swings his arm forward with the plane in it, and the plane disappears. Just watch. https://www.thepaperairplaneguy.com

Stuff gets broken every day, this design actually was an old record holder. I don't keep up with paper airplane tech obviously, so I wouldn't have known. Thanks for pointing it out though.

I made this and it's amazing! I'm glad I made it!

Scientists in Japan are designing a paper rocket that is capable of way more than the speed of sound. This is awesome, great job.
DJ Radio (author) says: May 29, 2011. 6:25 PM
It's probably powered by fuel, which is cheating.
TheFoofinator says: May 30, 2011. 4:13 AM
Well, they made a model of it in a hypersonic wind tunnel, and and got it to I think 3 times the speed of sound before the paper ripped it's the shape that they are looking at, to increase the efficiency of rockets, so lightweight materials can be used.

Rocket fuel=hax.

I found instructions for this on youtube and I build it frequently in class. Usually I use my work to make it.
Millawi Legend says: May 31, 2011. 4:16 AM
Here is a video of it being thrown.
DJ Radio (author) says: May 31, 2011. 10:24 AM
You can't see what is being thrown at any point in that video. It might as well be a paper ball wrapped around a rock.
Millawi Legend says: Jun 1, 2011. 6:05 AM
I know but the plane being used is called a sorolach; google it.
DJ Radio (author) says: Jun 1, 2011. 3:10 PM
Where'd it say that?
Millawi Legend says: Jun 2, 2011. 1:50 PM
Google it and it links to that video.

Faster than the NAR?! I just built that and with 2 elastics and fins it topped about
50 kph. This can go faster? *whistles contentedly*
DJ Radio (author) says: May 30, 2011. 10:16 AM
Depends on how hard you throw it. My friends happened to be well-trained pitchers on the school baseball team.
TheFoofinator says: May 29, 2011. 4:46 PM
This + Slingshot= Epic Win.
dmytro509 says: May 30, 2011. 6:54 AM
dude i cant find the NAR anywhere pleas help :-)
TheFoofinator says: May 30, 2011. 7:05 AM
There are only basic instructions here, for the base version. Look on this for mods for the best version. ignore the TR turret onthe front, and use a Nar mech and you'll be fine.
DJ Radio (author) says: May 29, 2011. 6:34 PM
If you can hook it up...
TheFoofinator says: May 30, 2011. 4:14 AM
Not too hard. I have a paper plane launcher at home that uses 2 rubber wheels and motors, do you want me to make a vid of it firing yours?
DJ Radio (author) says: May 30, 2011. 9:43 AM
Yes.
TheFoofinator says: May 30, 2011. 10:38 AM
I'll nee to dig it out first, I haven't used in a year! MAy be tomorrow now.
MegaMetal8 says: May 31, 2011. 2:22 AM
Inform me when you post that

lol, same (earlier)
Senior Waffleman says: May 29, 2011. 4:06 PM
Ive made this before :D
DJ Radio (author) says: May 29, 2011. 4:10 PM
I couldn't find a tutorial anywhere online, my friends had to show me how to make it.
Senior Waffleman says: May 29, 2011. 7:18 PM
Lol, same :P

Awesome, 5*s. I'll have to make this.
Raiden97 says: May 29, 2011. 5:47 PM
haha, last year in my school like EVERYONE always made these and stuck them in the ceiling, everyday youd see at least one of these in the ceiling. also once in my class we stuck so many in the ceiling our teacher wouldnt let our class go to lunch until we got them all out. sadly no one does it anymore this year
DJ Radio (author) says: May 29, 2011. 6:25 PM
Wiiiin.
Raiden97 says: May 29, 2011. 5:51 PM
id also like to mention a different way of shooting them that we did, youd hold the plane thing pointing towards you, put your 2 pointer fingers together on the tip holding it together, then twist your hands so that the plane is pointing foward, then you push your fingers forward without moving your hands, they will fly
beanieostrich says: May 29, 2011. 4:27 PM
Nice plane =D Im making a couple of these XD
