cool! i would do this, but i have a cordless soldering iron. just about one week, now the button is some how messed up, and it has to be pushed hard :-(

That actually sounds like an ideal situation. Replace the messed-up button with a 1/4" or 1/8" socket so you can plug in a foot switch.
