I wonder if you solder a USB port to it, it will act as a USB extender. Since the lamp itself would be taking up a usb port, you could regain the amount of free USB ports on your computer. For that, you would not cut off the data wires.

Why did you add the batteries? Is the batteries going to be charged? Why not the USB connected strait to the switch and the LEDs? Please send me the answer to piechart88@yahoo.com

The Batteries are a counterweight not for power,
just use something more efficient than batteries though.

Great idea. I will look at making one, but I will see if there is an easy way to make a basethat is more to my liking. Maybe some stiff card board glued around like a skirt and then two more cd's (we all have a small truckload of old ones). Then the counterweights and wiring can be hidden. When I get around to it, I will send you some pics.

Oh I will have to make two, my 11 year old just saw it and wants one to. Should be a great father some project.

Artificial Intelligence, can you add a template for the positioning of the led's on the cd's. I am crap at measuring and it would speed up the process. Just a thought and hopeful request.
