I think that i saw somewhere that you can also use nail polish remover for faster results, though it was for blanking the whole card.

Good instructions for a first step into making your own playing cards (gaffed, custom, marked, ...) But there are a couple of problems with it. One being the dull coating where it was erased, and two that it is a cumbersome process if you want to make more than two or three cards.

If you want to make your own cards which are indistinguishable from store bought playing cards including coating then read this webpage www.lybrary.com/make-your-playing-cards-a-11.html

Nice instructable. I'm not a card guy myself, but I can definitely see many applications. If you're not using a laser printer, you might consider using Tester's clear matt to protect the image. Most card magicians will have a can kicking around for making rough and smooth decks.

Good instructable, however no one can see the graphics you made, they did not work because, it is on your computer, use tinypic.com to download photos to make it easier to put on instructables.

to answer your questions, uglymike the spot where you erase does look a bit duller, but you could put a finish on it to make it shiny(hairspray or varnish) and my cards have never faded at all so I wouldn't be worried about that

Great project. 2 questions though. Is there any evidence left on the card showing that it was erased? It looks like the part of the 5 of Diamonds that was erased is a bit duller than the rest of the card. Also, how dies the new, printed, designs hold up? Does the ink from the printer penetrate deep into the card, or does the printed image scratch/fade with repeated shuffling and handling? These questions aside, it's a really great instructable with endless possibilities. I'm thinking pin-up girl deck.... Yeaaaahhhh
