Officially, I'm the first Colombian testing Sugru. It's a privilege and a good excuse for making something I always wanted: an evil mutant thing with robotic legs. Arachnid robotic legs. I love Krang from the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" and the Arachnotrons from "Doom II", and I dream with green viscous aliens riding robotic spiders, shooting plasma balls and trying to rule the world.

So, lets build one!!! We will hack a damaged toy car, assemble some junk pieces and add green silicone rubber, courtesy of Instructables and Sugru!

Step 1: Testing SUGRU.

What is the first step when you have a new toy? Well, to test it.

I had to know if SUGRU was that good, if it was a good choice for the project, how much SUGRU I could find in a sachet and how many sachets I could use. And find out if I am allergic to SUGRU (luckily, I'm not).

In the contest I found a great instructable that gave me some lights:

http://www.instructables.com/id/Sugru-Basics-and-Tips/

But, nothing like the empirical experience. So, in a non-related experiment, I repaired the broken band of my favorite watch. I used one black sachet. The superglue was only for keep togheter the pieces while Sugru cures (Before this experiment, I tried to repair the watchband with superglue only, and it was a bad idea).

The result? SUGRU IS AWESOME! And I think it's enviromental friendly because, if you make a good work, you don't have to thrown away your damaged plastic stuff. Just fix it and it will last for some more years. I made this experiment two weeks ago, and the watchband don't show rupture signs.

I has one suggestion: it will be good more Sugru colours. Yellow, pink and red would be great.

Well, let's go to the main project.

OLÁ MEU AMIGO COLOMBIANO, ESPERO QUE ENTENDA PORTUGUÊS...
VI TODOS OS SEUS INSTRUCTABLES E ACHEI O MÁXIMO, MEUS FILHOS TAMBÉM ADORARAM! SUA CRIATIVIDADE É MAGNÍFICA! GUARDO AQUI NA MINHA CASA UM MONTE DE SUCATA ELETRÔNICA MAS NUNCA SOUBE COMO UTILIZÀ-LA, AGORA VOU USAR TUDO, COPIANDO UM POUCO SEUS MODELOS. POR FAVOR, ME TIRE UMA DÚVIDA: QUE MATERIAL UTILIZA PARA FAZER AS PERNAS SERRILHADAS DOS SEUS ROBÔS??
M.C. Langer (author) in reply to RENATO.ROSSNov 2, 2011. 7:23 PM
Hi Renato! Thank you very much!! Well, for the robot legs I use iron pieces used for hang frames. Y si entiendes español , uso las piezas metálicas que se atornillan detrás de los cuadros para colgarlos en la pared. Saludos, amigo brasilero!!! :-)

You probably should have made him walk on like dirt or natural ground, maybe even sod, for the video, cause I noticed him sliding as his legs attempted to make it across the smooth surface. Maybe make another video with him doing that, it seems built for that kind of traction. Still a 5/5, though! I would try and build it if I had the proper materials. =)

Halestorm says: Oct 16, 2010. 11:01 AM
I don't think I'll be able to find a motor gearbox quite like the one you have, so would using a RC Car gearbox work the same? Also I don't suppose a project box could be used instead of a AC Adapter Box?

Btw, this is a awesome idea in its own simplicity. :D
M.C. Langer (author) in reply to HalestormOct 16, 2010. 5:22 PM
Thanks Halestrom! Well, this is a concept, so you can be flexible. If you find another kind of gearbox, awesome! But you will need a force gearbox, not a speed gearbox. If you try adapting an electric screwdriver, it will be slower but stronger!

where do you get the plastic cone from

I found it dumped on the street.

Ya tienes mi voto, compañero! :)

M.C. Langer (author) in reply to el santoOct 12, 2010. 8:05 PM
Santo!!!

http://www.niubie.com/2008/01/el-baul-de-los-recuerdos-doom-ii-parte/

la parte de atrás de hace con ruedas, y la de adelante con el cuerpo cubierto de latex... sería genial!!!

Hi Sillyzombie666!! Thanks for the idea. Look the last step:

Well, it's a walking toy made of a "Made In China" damaged car gearbox. It's a good thing it moves! ;-)
