It works in water because there are no actual electronics, just motors and a battery. And it is not a shock hazard, because the voltages are just way too low. However, not sealing your motors, batteries, and wire will eventually cause the system to fail from corrosion. Especially, the motors. You are drying out all the lubricant from the motors by running them in water.

Putting DC motors under water is an old trick, actually. When you buy a high powered RC motor, for example, it is a good idea to connect it to a battery and run it in a cup of water to clean all the junk out of it. Then you run it in a cup of light oil to relube it. Not relubing it will cause all kinds of trouble in the motor eventually.

The only thing in this project that could be a safety hazard is the battery. Water and the chemicals inside the battery can cause all kinds of reactions. Lithium and water can cause huge explosions.

i think it might be because its so light. it very well could be buoyant enough to float on water.

i don't think you have any education with electronics and safety since both of your current instructables lead to shocking hazards sorry to be rude but please try to think about safety first
