This is the first in a series of hollywood makeup tutorials that will teach you how to make bloody gashes.

Step 1: Gather Your Materials...

you will need each of the following, all of which are available at halloween or party stores.

Flesh Latex
Blood Gel
4- color makeup Paq
Stipple Sponge
Cotton Swabs

Step 2: Smear on some latex

As the tite states, this step is quite simple. Using a cotton swab, smear on a somewhat thin, yet generous layer of latex in the general size and shape of the desired wound.

Step 3: Score the latex

Using a toothpick, make a rut in the latex to mark where the gash will open.

Step 4: Open the gash

Using a toothpick, poke the now air-dried latex layer at the open cut to curl up the sides a little.

Allow to further air-dry

Step 5: Apply Bruise

Using the stipple sponge, apply a few random speck of Purple makeup around the Laceration. Then, use a cotton swab to rub it into a bruise. NOTE: Use the purple sparingly. It goes a long way!

Step 6: Add Irritated/Torn/Inflamed Flesh

Using a different corner of the stipple sponge (we dont want to mix colors!) use the red makeup to add small skit marks immediatley next to the opening of the cut. Then, using quick skitting motions, drag the sponge across the very top of the curled latex, giving it the torn and inflamed appearance.

Step 7: Add Dying Skin

Now that you have inflames the flesh, you need the kill the very tips of the skin. Using yet another unsoiled corner of the stipple sponge, highlight the tips of the little peaks of torn flesh, giving the appearnce of dead/dying flesh.

Step 8: Road Rash

what caused the Laceration? For this one, it was assumed to be a flying metal part of some sort. So use black makeup (and your ever-trusty stipple sponge) to add skit marks of black where the gresy metal tore through your skin. (pleasant thoughts!)

Step 9: Re-Curl

curl the edges again, peeling up the fles and giving the blood gel a nice gap to seep into.

Step 10: YAY blood gel!

Using a toothpics, smear a thin layer of bood gel into every nook and cranny of the laceration. (be sure to get under all the flaps of flesh!) Then, with the cotton swab, plop and smear oh-so-generous dollops of blood gel to fill the nasty gash.

Step 11: Congratulations!

you now have a washable laceraction on the place of your choosing. Go scare the crap out of your friends.

watch for the next instructable: Gunshot Wounds!!

(sorry about the fuzzines on the picture, but it enhances the realism.)
about how long do you let the latex dry before it becomes tacky enough to move like that, yet not completely dry?
OMG that looks like it hurts. very nice

thats so cooL!!!
for dumb people read on instead of using the latex you could use: super glue/hard plastic solder straight off the iron melted plastic paint tipex for a completely fake wound.. toilet paper a plaster
I am dumb... but is there a good substitute?
Elmer's/Craft glue, it simple it's cheap and it's workable. It is not as reusable, but hey it's a good sub.
Does it dry... quickly?
that's relative to the thickness of the layer you are using. The thinner the layer the quicker the dry time.
oi, I guess I'll have to try it!
Tacky glue works realy good, even though I think its a little more pricy
how do we use the paint? is it consumed?
He said for dumb people :P
would latex caulk work in place of the stuff ur using? ive got a party in a few hours....
Something that might be cool to do is get a plain white t-shirt (or any other t-shirt really) and tear a gash in the center of the chest then have a friend do the gash on your chest and drip some blood down the front of the shirt.
i did this and made my bro sick lol
This is an EXTREMELY realistic fake wound. Last night me and some friends were running a hayride and walking the kids house to house. well, i wasn't paying much attention and i stepped into a water meter hole, fell backwards, and had to get 5 stitches in my ankle. I swear, this looks EXACTLY like my wound. Great work
I know where you live.... i will get you when i heal... MWAHAHAHAHA!!!
Nice Instructable; it looks really good. You might try an infected wound next, after the gunshot.
I never see you on.
cool but does it heart when you peel it off??
a little, it helps to shave the area first.
you can use vaseline on any areas with a lot of hair(eyebrows, hairline, etc.) but shaving is the best and least messy way to go.
or instead of shaving the area, using either lemon juice if you have it, or warm soapy water it will remove the latex.
where do i get the latex and stuff. could i get it at a halloween store?
I got mine at a halloween store for $3
Amazing, I'm definitely going to use this come October. Does anyone know some good places to get this type of latex from?
the exact brand I use is at http://store.cinemasecretsonline.com/index.html
What a cowinkie-dink. XD That's the brand I picked up $5 for a small bottle, at the local Halloween adventure. Here's some pics.

Probably better prices there, but, really, there arn't as many good quality costume shops as there are bad ones.. So it might be best to buy it online.
Oooooooo, this gives me some great, yet somehow possibly utterly deceptive ideas Mwahahaha
also seems like you may want to shave wherever you're applying the latex
