ThinkGeek Hacks Winners

Instructables and ThinkGeek are happy to announce the winners of the ThinkGeek Hacks Contest. The contest was all about finding creative new uses for ThinkGeek items and the entrants were certainly up to the challenge.

Some of the entries were inventive new uses for items, others were radical departures, and all showed a willingness to break something apart to make something new. That's a wonderful thing.

And without further ado, let's move on to see who won!

Thanks to everyone who submitted hacks! Our staff is really impressed with what you guys were able to do--it's exciting to see our stuff get modded in ways we wouldn't expect. It was like watching them fly from the nest to meet their own uniquely geeky destinies. We couldn't be more proud. Let us know how you think this contest went and we'll see if we can do something similar in the future. Thanks again to Instructables for hosting the hacks!

Perhaps a $ or % off coupon code for each entry. Nothing huge, but something special nonetheless.

Jeff-o, excellent idea! Will add that to the future-things-we'd-like-to-do hopper.

Sadly, I ran out of time to finish testing my "wireless camera detector mod"....I still haven't been able to find place to test it...*sigh*

Also, thanks! I shall add my T-shirt to the rest. Someday I'll be able to go a whole week with a robot on my shirt and never wear the same shirt twice!

defiantly a great contest idea, but maybe a slight discount or coupon for Instructables members as an incentive to begin an entry project. ;) just a thought

One thing - you'd have had more entries if you hadn't required that entries include something purchased from TG.

I think you could take a lesson from the Amazon contest, which had to incude something which could have been bought on Amazon, and a link to prove it.

It wasn't technically required that the items be purchased at TG. The requirement that it was a hack of an item that TG sells.

The way the contest was presented, one felt obliged to purchase the donor items from TG.

I totally thought you had to buy it from TG... :-\

Yes, I even bought some things (to the tune of about $30+ ) and had I not run out of time to complete it and test it....I would have lost fair and square, rather then by default.... LOL

I'm gonna buy me a Kaossilator. I hear they're cool :] Thanks for your support everyone.

I wonder how much money ThinkGeek got from this contest... so many users, so many must'ave failed. Oh well, congrats to the winners! I loved the Kaossilator guitar! -PKT

25 entries and 7 winners. So 28% of the people who entered won a prize. Looking through the entries only a few bought items for this contest. Not too shabby. Yes, the guitar is awesome :)

Cool! I figured the Korg Kaossilator would win grand or first, it's really impressive. Darn! I was shooting for the $50, I doubt I'll be able to buy any of the really cool stuff with my own money. :P Still, you can't go wrong with a robot T-shirt. I shall wear it always! :D Congratulations to all the winners!

Also, I'm a little surprised. I thought judging ended on the 20th, but I must be thinking of another contest.

Judging was open until the 20th originally. Thanks to the judges picking the winners early we were able to announce earlier.
