This project uses LEGO ® MINDSTORMS ® NXT to build a pocket size design of a timelapse apparatus for a small Canon camera.  The pictures were taken over a few hours.

Software and Tools: The project uses a very simple program that constantly rotates the gear set, lowering a "finger" on the shutter button.  The NXT program is here.

With this Timelapse Camera you can track birds, wildlife or even road intersection if you place a camera in the right position. It depends on what you want to track. When your camera is set in the position so that you will track what you want, you can go home/job and when you come back you look at the film that the camera made. From the film you make your data, you can zoom in/out the picture, make pictures.
The benefits of Timelapse Camera are, that you do not have to be still, wait for hours in cold and not make noise and scare birds or other wildlife away. You can do other chores, so in the same time you are making 2 things ;)
If you look at it a nother way, I presented a tool that may be used for current/future citizen science projects, which is cheaper and a lot smaller that the one that is on the market, so you can put it any hole and it is difficult to spot.

Pics: Some photographs are included to give a better perspective of the design.

Hi, thanke you. Now you can see, that all those corses on programming, numerical methods and optimization methods pay off ;)

I like the use of Lego, it's very versatile.
I recently built a glitter-ball-driver with some (but bad-camera=no pictures)
