Hi! Thanks for thinking up this instructible!! My grand daughter supervised as her dad and I carved out her choices, one of which being this one! We used real pumpkins and it went smooth as could be! She was absolutely thrilled and I was very impressed that it was sos easy! Thank you again!

Made it for a Halloween competition, it turned out nice! the sparkles were hard to do without a drill... had to use toothpicks, paper clips, a compass needle, and push pins. But it worked out in the end! Hope I win *fingerscrossed* Thanks for the inspiration!

Nicely done. Did you toss the drill bit after you were done? I've found in the past that pumpkins really do a number on metal.

the artical states "

Started with an artificial Pumpkin (any size will do), Tinker Bell
silhouette from Google image. Print it out and tape it to your pumpkin." The key word there is artificial....

It's a Funkins, They don't last for 2 or 3 days like the real pumpkins these artificial pumpkin last for many many years, I box my Tinkerbell pixie dust Pumpkin and mailed it to my Mommy she was so happy that it was made by me. Love these Funkins!

Hello dear Luis, thank you so much for sharing this lovely idea with us , may I ask you from where you bought the artificial pumpkin , is there any online shop you recommend ?

author
Luis+Linares made it!(author)2013-11-08

Got this artificial pumpkin when they were 40% off at Joanns with a extra coupon I paid Like $12 that was then But they were at Michaels store, Hobby Lobby and home Depot too. I really want to get more after the Halloween sales but they were all sold out:(

Thank you for the tutorial! I made this out of a real pumpkin as a test run before trying on an artificial one as I didn't want to ruin the one that is quite a bit more expensive.
In your pictures, Tink was so bright it seemed to take away from her detail a bit, so I used an Exacto knife to trace the 'pokes', pealed off the skin carefully & then scrapped away some of the flesh in her silhouette. Once the inside was cleaned out, I scrapped the inside right behind her a little more to make the wall a bit thinner to allow more light through. Very happy with the result & thank you for your guidance : )

Real pumpkin is a really hard work to work on as we do not have artificial Pumpkin to buy in UK. It is not as good as yours but it is fun and here is my work you can see. Sorry about the pics not so good as my hands are still shaking mentally after 2 hours craving, lol.

Definitely Real pumpkins are harder to carve for fine detail cuts, Ever since artificial pumpkins came to stores I never went back to real pumpkins less messy, last forever, better with mini light bulb instead of candles plus it brakes you could always glue it.

By the way your Tinkerbell pumpkin came out absolute amazing A Brilliant masterpiece!!!

Do you think using a real pumpkin you wouldn't get the same effect because the candle isn't as bright?

author
Luis+Linares made it!(author)2013-10-13

I used the artificial pumpkin cause I could take it out every year and a real pumpkin probably be hard to get the fine detail cuts, Candle lights. now I use the battery candle light in our kids room for a night light but in this picture I used a Mini light bulb gave it a brighter look on tinkerbell
