One of the other things I was taught to do when making tiramisu is add a liqure to the coffee for flavour.

Tiramisù is "THE KING" of Italian home made deserts (one of the many kings we have actually, there are a lot of themm, too many to mention).
Some families have a devotion to it, and devote many weekends to find the "perfect" one.

Take the best and fresher mascarpone you can.

Also, the home made version uses ladifinghers or "savoiardi" to make it, while chefs use spongecake layers. In Italy some savoiardi are made just to make tiramisu and you can find the reciepe of tiramisu on the side of the savoiardi box.
