Tire tubes stretch to about 2 times their original length. It is this property makes them the ideal medium for bungy cords. This an instructable on how to turn your old tire tubes into a pair of bungycords. It is really easy to do it only takes about 10 - 15 minutes. It is a good way to go green without having to spend a lot of money. It is also a good way to take old tiretubes that are unwanted and get bungy cords if you dont have enough time or money to go get store bought ones.

materials
To make tire tube bungy cord there are very few materials needed. these materials include:
*one or more tire tubes
*4 S hooks per tire tube
*one sharp
tools:
*a sharp pair of scissors
*a srong needle or pin (I used a sharp dental tool)

Step 1: Cutting the Tire Tube

The first thing you do is cut of the section of the tire tube containing the valve stem. This piece can be used for another project, or just discarded. After this has been completed fold the length of your tire tube in half and cut it down the center.

Step 2: Puncturing the Tire Tube for the S Hooks

The next thing that you need to do is pinch the end of your tire tube between your thumb and fore finger, then fold the end in half. now you take your pin and push it thruogh the tire tube in the center about a half inch away from the end.

Step 3: Insertng the S Hook

The last step is to take the end of your tire tubes and S hooks, and while streching the hole open with on hand and insert the Shook withe the other. This can be a little hard and may take more than one attempt. after you have done this for one side repeate it for the other. When this is complete your tire tube is done.

Step 4: Modifications / Alterations

some changes you can make are:
*cutting your tire tube longer or shorter
*using larger or smaller S hooks
*using a car inner tube for more resistance

warning: The over stretching of tire tubes may result or a break, or tear. so always be catous when stretching the tire tubes.
