Second that on the steel wool, with a battery its a fine firestarter, add some car tyre shavings for same,a broken piece of hacksaw (a saw and a flint striker),a flint shard (knife and sparker) and a wire saw.Beeswax candle is good for light and emergency eating, some picture hanging wire or fishing wire is good for snares and hanging stuff up (and fishing),etc etc ad nauseum... Great thread, easy to adapt contents to your enviroment...keep on survivin'

Wow, I is glad I live in New Zealand. The toughest predator out their is a pig, then you'd better watch out for the Kaka stealing the rubber seal on your car doors and in the unlikely event you are lost, as long as you have an emergency locater beacon you're pretty safe and event without that, as long as you told people about your plans, when you're going to be back etc you're pretty safe. Though I could be exaggerating a bit.
