Hello all,

It was a long while that i wanted to create!

Found little slots of spare time on the routine schedule and went for it.

So if you like the outcome follow these steps.

Enjoy!

Step 1: Tools & Materials

Tools:

1. Drill with 8mm wood bit

2. Adjustable Driller depth blocker

3. Dowel Drill Center Point (ebay link)

4. Bosch multi-tool with 1cm blade

5. Clamps

6. Regular home tools

Materials:

1. 3m unplaned oak wood

2. 8mm wood plugs

3. Wood glue

4. 2 X metal plates for screws

5. Transparent shining varnish paint

Step 2: Design

I used sketchup do design the shelf, i see this as one of the most crucial parts.

after getting to the final design (which took lots of time), sketchup helped me be more precise.

bonus from using sketchup is to have 3d view of the shelf and also to have measurements of each part.

Tip: mark each same part with certain color, this help me later when cutting the wood.

Step 3: Choose Wood

After design is finished and i was satisfied with the result.

First, I needed to choose the kind of wood to work with, the guide line for me here was the strength, texture and price,

ended up with two kinds that i liked: mahogany and oak.

went with the oak, thought it will look better with my living room :)

Secondly i needed to plane and cut the wood according to my measurements.

Step 4: Assemble

In order to join the shelf part without leaving any marks on the outside, i used wood plugs and glue.

each plug is 2cm long and the holes were drilled accordingly.

Steps:

1. Drill two holes in the first part

2. Insert the center markers

3. Adjust the second part very carefully, verify all edges are adjusted.
place a spare wood on the second part and pound it with a hammer (this will leave a mark)

4. Drill two holes in marked places on the second part

5. Put glue on the first part (also in the holes)

6. Insert two wood plugs in the holes

7. Put glue in the second part holes

8. Attach together and apply clamps

9. Leave it for few hours to dry.

Step 5: Polish & Paint

Polish the wood first then cover with 3 layers of varnish paint.

Step 6: Hanging on the Wall

This was a very delicate step along the way as i found myself with very little place for the screw metal plate.

so first i had to do a dry run on a spare wood, once i got the idea i applied it on the shelf.

Steps:

1. Mark the shape of the metal plate.

2. With either scalpel and hammer or with a machine curve the plate place.

3. Put the metal plate and mark the hole for the screws

4. With 1mm drill bit, drill a hole (oak is very strong, to the hole made sure the screw wont break)

5. After the screws place is installed, place the shelf in his place end even it up on the wall.

6. Mark the screws place on the wall

7. Drill two hole in the wall and insert a wall plug

8. Insert the screws

9. Hang the shelf

Step 7: Done

That is it, what do you think?

BTW, you can also turn it degrees
