I've been on a sangria kick, trying out all sorts of recipes, and this one is definitely a keeper.  This traditional red sangria recipe is truly one you'll want to make again and again.  Great for summer, great for winter, try it hot and add some spices - it's extremely versatile! Fruit, wine, sugar, brandy, it's all here, and it's freaking delicious.

For a lighter summer tipple, try it's sister, White Sangria!

Ingredients:
  • 1 orange
  • 1 lemon
  • 1 lime
  • 1 apple
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup brandy
  • 1/4 cup orange liqueur
  • 2 bottles of red wine (I used Tempranillo)
  • 2 cups sparkling water or club soda

Directions:
  • Cut the fruit into small pieces
  • In a large container, combine fruit and sprinkle with sugar.
  • Pour brandy and orange liqueur over the fruit and allow to marinate for 1-4 hours.
  • Add the red wine, stir and chill.
  • Serve over ice and top with sparkling water.

Enjoy!

Hi scoochmaroo, thats a good recipe of Sangria maybe I will try it, i have a few of my own x) I'm a Portuguese guy and people in Portugal drink a lot of sangria specially like this with red wine.

I wont advise this drink hot.. for that go for some sort of "hot wine", "mulled wine" recipe, there are a lot of recipes for it.

normally we use a bit of sweet juices (orange, maracuja/passion fruit..) and instead of sparkling water we use drinks like 7up, sprite.
For extras we use some strong alcoholic drinks like wodka, and some times a brandy like portuguese drink named "licor beirão".

About the marinate I strongly advise in a fridge!!! and when is time to serve put the ice on the serving jar.

I normally say this is a good way to waste good red wine if properly done!

PS: I forgot!! add 1 or 2 cinnamon sticks on the marinate it will give a nice kick! NEVER POWDER CINNAMON! about other fruits, red fruits! like strawberry's if u smash a few to give a bit body to the drink. Peaches are a good choice as well!!

dont drink to quick! or you fall to floor when u try get up from your seat ^^

Your directions say to use 1 orange twice, I am wondering what the other fruit should be. other than that, it sounds far too tasty to not be made by the gallon!
