Did you know you can take an inexpensive winter hat and turn it into a smashing designer piece? You can! And it will be one-of-a-kind and uniquely yours!

Read on to see how...

Step 1: Start with a hat

I have a thing for hats. I don't know why - I don't really look good in them. But I saw this one and had to buy it. It won't just look cute, it will be warm in the winter...

I did wish it had a little more 'zip' and color, though. So I decided that I could fix that. Here's how:

You will need:
  • a hat
  • a button
  • felted wool or felt
  • scissors
  • needle and thread

Step 2: Make felted wool flowers

Cut a couple of flowers out of felted wool. You can use one or more colors.

Cut them in different shapes or identical ones - if you cut identical ones you will need to turn each one slightly when you layer them so they will create a layered look.

Sew the button in the middle and take several 'gathering' stitches to give the flower some depth.

Step 3: Sew them on!

All you have to do now is sew your flower onto the hat - voila! Beautiful!

VERY CUTE! I love it! I wish I could wear a hat but they always make my ears stick out and look sooo big:( I may have to suck it up and buy one just to make this! Thanks for sharing.

Love it! I love the maroon with the black and white. I recently got a all black hat with black crochet flowers and figure I will have to jazz it up a bit some time soon.
