Transforming Post-It Note Ninja Star

 by TabLeft
This is an 8 point ninja star that you can make out of any 8 pieces of square paper (Post-it notes are just convenient and about the right size)

P.S. Sorry about the Purple Post-its but I didn't think the yellow would provide much contrast, and please disregard the incorrect time stamps.

P.P.S. this is my first Instructable so be gentle. ;þ

Step 1: The Prep

You will need 8 Post-it notes for each star and with each you will be making the following shape.

Start by folding the Post-it note (sticky part on the top) in half away from the sticky side then flatten it back out

Then fold the 2 sticky corners to the center (like making a paper air plane) this should cover the sticky area so it wont be a pain later. Now fold in half along the crease

The next step is not hard but it's kinda hard to explain via text so hopefully the video or images will do it, but basically you are going to valley fold the square end into it's self so you end up with a sorta wonky diamond.

Now repeat 7 more times.

TabLeft (author) in reply to thebomb745Jul 27, 2010. 1:01 PM
probably nothing, you just have to be kinda careful when pushing it in the first time... just don't push to hard and try it from a few different spots it should work out.

TabLeft (author) in reply to jayzeeroxMay 20, 2010. 10:24 AM
well if you wanted to split the spectrum up you could do

red
amber
chartreuse
green
cyan
blue
purple
magenta

and have a fairly accurate repeating color wheel

there shouldn't be any issue with it staying together, or at least I never had one come apart on me. Maybe try a different weight paper that holds it crease better?

Bukimari in reply to BukimariMay 3, 2007. 10:15 PM
Oh, and BTW I made sure to fold the tips in on the 8 edges before I threw them at my little brother. lol. That way they weren't sharp, they just kinda bounced off him. but they don't fly straight like you said, so I missed most of the time.

thanks, it works! It even helped me with another paper-art (the dollar bill bowtie) thanx
Choose a Username says: Mar 28, 2007. 12:02 AM
wait doest it matter where the stickly side is?
TabLeft (author) in reply to Choose a UsernameMar 28, 2007. 3:29 AM
the sticky part is not necessary so you can make this out of any paper... however if you are using post-its you need to cover the sticky part on the first folds so that the segments don't stick together (see text write up on step 1)
Ephdisc says: Feb 27, 2007. 2:46 PM

lol... Yeah, I think it was little girl that showed me how to do this back in like 5th grade (think she called it a flower or a pin wheel or something). P.S. Makes a great drink coaster too while in the round shape.
vonage says: Jul 29, 2006. 11:11 PM
This is pretty cool. The second part i didnt get (where you put it together) But i played around with it and finally got what your supposed to do. It takes a while to make one of these though. But if your in the office it takes away time. These dont fly very well in the star state. But if you leave it open as a disc it flys rather well. Thanx for the instructable
TabLeft (author) says: Jul 29, 2006. 10:11 PM
I hope this is understandable...
