I decided to create a bed frame without any previous carpentry experience.

What ensued was a 4 week project that cost more than it should have, and was much more complicated then needed. The project was full of mistakes that I spent countless hours correcting. The reason it is a slide show and not an instructable is because this is a very difficult, and impractical, way to make a bed frame.

Luckily, in the end there was a bed frame...a very strong and heavy bed frame actually.

I'm working on another bed frame now that should be much simpler and better documented.

I applaud you for posting your "oops".
Not many will do that, but ultimately, it's to the benefit of the reader, so a big thank you and a pat on the back for "taking one for the team".

Nicely done. The next one will be much easier, much cheaper, much faster. We have ALL done things the hard way before learning why the others do it the easy way. And my own experience is that as much as ordinary beds look like they won't support the weight, what we really worry about is whether they'll support the activity...

A project that cost more than it should have? Never happens! :P

That is a ridiculously sweet bed :)

I'm planning on making a queen platform bed with hinges on the slats(for my bf and myself) so that we can slip the mattress off, flip it open and put stuff like Halloween decorations, rarely used tools(like our air compressor), and guest bedding, underneath for long term storage.

That sounds like the project I'm embarking on myself. I was also thinking of adding storage to an upholstered, paneled, hinged, headboard which would reveal storage behind it as well (obviously narrow). If you get your project documented please post. I'm not sure when I'll ever get around to building mine.
